Castlevania: Rondo of Blood drips onto VC, Rage of the Gladiator strikes WiiWare

Nintendo Store Update: Fantastical fighting title and Castlevania classic cross swords with Triple Shot Sports; handheld gets 101 MiniGolf World, Zoo Frenzy, Battle of Giants: Dinosaurs, and Car Jack Streets.

Every Monday, Nintendo releases a wave of downloadable content for the Wii and DSi. This week, the former console gets two new offerings and one classic Virtual Console addition. First up is Ghostfire Games' WiiWare fighting title Rage of the Gladiator. Rated T for Teen and priced at 1,000 Wii points ($10), the single-player game will have players square off against a variety of fantastical opponents, some of whom will have magic abilities. Players themselves can also cast spells if they choose to specialize in magic; offense and defense specializations are also available.

A second WiiWare game, Code Monkeys' Triple Shot Sports, is available for 500 Wii points ($5). As the name implies, the game will let players engage in a variety of target-shooting events, including archery, pistols, and rifles. Wind speed and other weather conditions will also factor into the game, which is rated E for Everyone.

"No, I said 'rage,' not 'mage.'"

The Wii's Virtual Console gets only one game this week--the TurboGrafx-16 version of Konami's Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Originally released in 1993, the game was the 10th installment in the now-lengthy Castlevania series, which follows the vampire-hunter Richter Belmont through nine trap- and monster-filled levels. It is the first time the original game has been released outside Japan in its original form, although it was remade in Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP. Priced at 900 Wii points ($9), the game is rated T for Teen.

No fewer than four DSiWare titles arrive this week, covering a variety of subjects. Gameloft's Zoo Frenzy (E for Everyone, 500 DSi points) will let players raise and train virtual zoo animals with a variety of minigames. Teyon's 101 MiniGolf World (E for Everyone, 500 DSi points) lets players use their stylus as a putter on 101 minigolf-course holes. Ubisoft's Battle of Giants: Dinosaurs - Fight for Survival puts players in the leathery hide of an endangered dinosaur fighting for survival. Tag Games' Car Jack Streets will put players into a Grand Theft Auto-style underworld where they must raise $1 million by committing various crimes.

You have to play Symphony of the Night first. Then go and play Rondo of Blood. I know that's not the timeline order but that is the order I played them in and my god did the pair of them leave an impression. Games just dont leave that kind of impression on me anymore :( *sniff*

@eloy....not to put too fine a point on it, but that is like asking if the actual arcade game of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was better then the NES version. Yes it is, if you are a fan of Castlevania, you can't miss it my fellow gamer.

I just got Castlevania ROB after getting through Mega Man 10. It's one of the few Castlevania titles I've never got through. The N64 Castlevania games may never be on Wii since they're not published by Nintendo. That's fine with me since I've got through both of them several times each.

@wilt1725grog Even though all those games are awesome, there's just so many good Castlevania games I've enjoyed. All of the ones for the GBA and DS were excellent as well.

I never played Rondo...I did play Castlevania Dracula X for SNES which I heard is an inferior version of that game. I always wanted to try the original. I've always loved the Castlevania series so that's an easy buy for me.

Nice. I have Rondo already in the PSP collection, but it's a terrific game and an easy recommendation.

If I had the Wii the Virtual Console is probably the only games I'd bother with.....and I'd definitely grab Castlevania: R.O.B.

Sweet but I have the PSP version Dracula X Chronicles with ROB remade and original with SoTN so that is enough for me. Glad though to see it on here.

SWEET! I'm definitely gonna get Castlevania: Rondo. The SNES port of Dracula X didn't do justice for the original game at all.

Awesome!! considering Rondo of Blood is my favorite castlevania game and argubly the best one ever made. This is a dream come true..The game alone is about $100 never mind the price of the turbo Graffix and the CD add-on which are both sold sepertley. You'd be lucky to find this game for as low as $70...The CD add on itself can cost around $100+ and the Turbo Graffix about $50-$100. Even though I wont experience the same enjoyment as I would playing it on the Actual Turbograffix with the actual controller in my hand. This is so awesome and will be totally worth it.
