Castlevania: Lords of Shadow DLC detailed

Reverie and Resurrection set for launch in February and April; add-ons will introduce new locations and monsters, flesh out game's story and epilogue.

The ending of October's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow suggests a new direction for Konami's gothic action franchise, and gamers may soon get a peek at what else the publisher has in store for the Belmont saga. Konami today detailed its first downloadable content for Lords of Shadow, saying it would launch a pair of add-ons early next year.

Reverie and Resurrection will give players more insight into Lords of Shadow's storyline.

The first add-on, Reverie, sees players in the guise of Gabriel Belmont again, dealing with the consequences of slaying the vampire queen Carmilla. While Carmilla is gone, an evil she had previously kept under control has been unleashed and needs to be dealt with in the DLC.

The second add-on, Resurrection, takes place immediately after the end of Lords of Shadow. Konami has said the DLC will be larger in scope than Reverie, featuring a climactic battle with "a very notorious enemy" that will shed light on the original game's ending.

Developed by Spain-based Mercury Steam under Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima's supervision, Lords of Shadow is set in the year 1047 and follows Gabriel Belmont as he pursues pieces of an artifact that can bring the dead back to life, while battling nefarious underworld creatures and other mythical monsters. The game represents a departure for the series, emphasizing puzzles as well as action gameplay in a 3D environment.

The Reverie add-on is set for a February 2011 debut, with Resurrection to follow in April. For more on the base game, check out GameSpot's review of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

LOVED!!! This game. I just hope they don't ruin it with a sequel that plays off the epilogue. I would really like to see them resurrect Simon Belmont and work with the whole Belmont curse story arc. The epilogue was cool minus the one little part that anyone who has beat the game will know. But this is great news!

This was one of the games that slipped by my grasp as all the other gaming goodness got in the way. Honestly, the review score did make a difference. But reading more than a few comments here (and elsewhere) about how good it was (GOTY quality) has me thinking about picking the title up. And Metro 2033, too, for the same reasons!

@lewishim666 I see where you are coming with this and thats fine. My opinion on Mafia II though is this: The bottomline is that the developers had additional content that could have easily been included in the game when it released. Maybe they don't put it in the main story but perhaps you unlock it when you beat the game. There was a time (god I feel old saying that) when this was common in video games. If you beat it on the hardest difficulty or something like that, then you would unlock a hidden level or mission or whatever. Instead, they released the content as DLC about 1-2 weeks later after the game came out. I'm sorry but IMO, thats just a cheap way to make some extra money off gamers. This is all in reference though to the early DLC that got released for Mafia II. Anyways, getting waaaayyy off topic now in terms of LoS haha.

@gonch818 This game is nothing like PoP or AC. @mattiberg How do you figure this is nothing like GoW or SotC? The gameplay (as far as the action and platforming go) is a direct rip-off of GoW and the boss battles definitely take a page from the SotC book. Granted they added a GoW twist to these battles. Bottom line to anyone reading this or the review, this games boss battles are basically GoW and SotC mixed together. Mixing to games together doesn't equate to being unigue. Btw i loved this game but what you are saying is flat out wrong and missleading. The review is absolutley truthful. But i would have giving it more like a 9 instead. @Hercules321 You are the main reason I am even posting a comment. How do you figure they left stuff out of mafia 2 just for DLC's sake. The story is NOT about Jimmy or Joe. It is about Vito and Vito alone. The fact that they even give you the option to explore different POVs is and added bonus. Hence the DLC. They did not need to add the DLC so you can explore jimmy's and joe's story. If you are referring to the different car DLCs the situation is still the same. You are flat out wrong. I can't wait for this DLC. I loved every minute of this game. I really enjoyed it's mix of GoW and SotC gameplay. The GoW series to me is one of the best ever so i enjoyed playing this style of game again. Same with SotC. I just love it when people come on here with there closed minded thinking and lie about a game just for the sake of lying. Btw I've beaten it 3 times so i think i know the ins and outs of this game. The way it sounds to me is the 3 mentioned above have not played all the way through once. Let alone the other 4 games mentioned (lets see how many can't count).

I'm sure this DLC will be pretty expansive based on the scope of the core game. So much of this game could have been cut up and sold as DLC for a quick buck, but this game was a work of art.

i think this game play is the same as prince of Persia, and assassins creed but it looks fun to play, great story line, and awesome graphics.

The reviewer in this video is, well. I never seemed to get frustrated , because it was a clearly laid path of the optioniol actions for you to do when for example the puzzles or the platforming were presented in the game. THe game Is perfect. I really disagree with this review. And I know that my opinion is more or less correct because i actually played alot of games. AND i dont compare games.Castlevania is nothing like gow or stc(shadow of the colossus). It was one of my favorite games.

Hercules321
Hercules321

This was a one of my favorite games of 2010. The length of the game itself (took me roughly 20 hours to beat) is insane for an action game and that also really allows for the story to slowly build and get fleshed out. It didn't seem like the developers tried to purposely leave out content just so they could sell it later as some cheap DLC (like Mafia 2 is doing...) so this will probably be some genuine kick ass DLC that will hopefully not be overpriced.

Don't see why people scream it "stole from God of War," when God of War stole from Devil May Cry and Shenmue (and chained weapons from Castlevania), and so on and so forth. No gameplay mechanism belongs to a single title, and besides LoS really doesn't play much like GoW at all.

Thats pretty cool... being that I'm a big fan of the franchise, I feel bad missing out on this game, but its welcoming to know I have so much more to look forward to when I finally scoop up this title.

@BIG_BOSS_927 Not necessarily. They could still fill in those 963 years with flashbacks that serve as tutorials and further plot development. Then again to some extent they may have already done so with the other Castlevania games depending on where they were set. But then I guess that might be lazy considering it is supposed to be a reboot. Tons of sequel/prequel potential. They could do both with future installments.

INewIRave
INewIRave

Look the creators knew they wouldnt be popular for messing around with the story and ignoring the CV timeline but the reason they did it was because they wanted to reboot the series not simply add on to it! The game is good imo...yes it steals from god of war, shadow of the colossus and PoP but it does it brilliantly. The ending was awesome if a bit depressing (the one after the credits) but would be better with a bit more info provided hopefully by these dlc packages-cant wait.

good game, definitely had a mindtwist ending there, can't wait to see how it will unfold.and then there's the music,i hope i hear more original songs and maybe some more familiar tunes, there were only 3 songs from other castlevania games from what im aware of tht they used for LOS ..well here's hoping

Alucard_Prime

Getting these on day 1. LoS was easily my most memorable gaming experience of 2010(and Mass Effect 2 at a close 2nd), and hopefully since the DLC is still far away, they will have enough time to chunk out some high-quality stuff.

Castlevania1986
Castlevania1986

There were so many reasons why I didn't like the game. For the most part, I've always wondered what the climax was for Lament of Innocence, it also had a cliff hanger ending too. But Konami never gave it a sequel. I would much rather take control of Leon belmont again than having to be forced to play as an entirely new Belmont. Plus Gabriel just felt boring to me, his outfit sucked too. Sure he fights a lot better than any Belmont I've seen but that's only because they waited until they probably played GOD Of War, before they even decided to make the whip finally control the way that it should have been long before God Of War. Not that I am complaining, I love the combat in Lords of Shadow, it was addictive and fun. There were still just some things in the game I could not tolerate though. The game didn't start feeling like CV until I made it to the first castle where you fight the Crow Witch or whatever her name was. That part just transcending the mountains and you see this huge tower in the far distance made the game feel like it should have felt. Honestly though, I would much rather play as one of the old Belmonts than a new one. Maybe Ritcher, Simon, Leon, or even Alucard again even though he wasn't a Belmont. He was still a cool character none the less and had personality which both Gabriel and the guy you play as in Curse of Darkness lacked. Gabriel just wasn't that exciting to begin with, first time I seen him on the front case I judged him. Started playing the game, my judge was dead on.

Why release DLC for this. LoS feels complete already. It was extreemly well made. I don't see how the can extend it.

Still need to get the bloomin' game. Soon though. I was critical of it as I based my opinion on the demo, but most of you have stated how it offers a poor representation of the full game, so I will buy it regardless. Oh and kudos to Mercury for developing and releasing this add-on content after the game's release, as opposed to having made it during development but holding it back from the main game just to make a buck. cough Capcom cough.

GREAT! Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is in my opinion 1 amazing game. I'm still working through it getting all the upgrades and unlocking more things in the game. I'll get a lot of hate on what i'm about to say but this game is better then any God of War hands down. Come on GOW games are average 7-8 hours of play...in comparison Lords of Shadow is easily 20-30+ hours and just as beautiful and entrancing!

I loved this epic game, waited for it since its E3 2009 showing debut and day 1 limited edition purchase, I especially loved the ending and expected to have to wait for the sequel to play more from that point but this is excellent news. I would pay for any dlc they put out gladly. Best game of 2010!!!

*******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS******* *******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS******* *******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS*******SPOILERS******* Overall I loved this new Castlevania. Great story, atmosphere, characters, music. It had it all really. I thought the Necromancer stages dragged on a bit, but oh well. I also thought turning Gabriel into Dracula for the ending was a great move and perfectly set up a sequel. I HATED it when I saw Zobek throw him through the window and he landed in a modern city though. I think it would have suited this "new" series much better if they had simply faded to black when Gabriel had a hold of Zobek from behind, leaving the player to wonder if he had bitten Zobek or not. It would also be a great way to open the sequel. A fight between Zobek and a weakened Dracula/Gabriel would've made for a great opening tutorial and allow the player to gain more power as Dracular as they progressed. This story was set in 1047 and ended in... just to make things easy say 2010. What was Gabriel doing for the past 963 years!? That's your 2nd game at least. 963 years of potential story thrown away.
