Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will "keep players guessing right till the very end", says developer

Producer Dave Cox says fans will encounter "a lot of surprises" in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Upcoming open-world action adventure game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will "keep players guessing right till the very end", producer Dave Cox has revealed in a recent interview with GameSpot.

The game continues the story established in previous games Lords of Shadow and Mirror of Fate, and will be the first title in the Castlevania series to place fans in the role of iconic character Dracula.

Speaking about Dracula's portrayal in Lords of Shadow 2, Cox described the character as "much darker than in the first game".

"We're taking a few risks with the character, the world, and the universe. I think when people are playing [Lords of Shadow 2], there will be a lot of surprises there. We like surprising people. With this game, we tried to deliver something that I think will keep players guessing right till the very end." Cox said.

The producer highlighted a scene at the beginning of Lords of Shadow 2 that features Dracula preying upon an innocent family as an example where the developer felt the tone of the game could have been "a bit over the top".

"When we were developing the first game, I think there was a certain fear in the team about pushing things too far. It was already quite a radical departure from the previous [Castlevania] games... but then it came out and did so well. I think for Lords of Shadow 2 we felt a bit more confident and didn't have that fear."

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is the final game in the Lords of Shadow series and will conclude the saga's storyline. Developer MercurySteam has confirmed that the game will be its last contribution to the Castlevania franchise.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 launches on February 25 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more information about the game, check out GameSpot's recent preview.

I have a feeling what I will be guessing all the way to the end will be "Why did I buy this?"

I want more witty and direct gameplay and less crappy hollywood.

I'm still really looking forward to it. I only hope there isn't a strong narrative connection to Mirror of Fate. I played the demo and just couldn't justify paying for the full game.

I am getting this. It will not be perfect, but it will be good. At least this developer is listening to critic of fans and fixed alot things.

Modern City? Play as Dracula? Pfftt I'd rather play as Richter Belmont, Chris Belmont, or Reinhardt Schneider and whoop both Dracula and Satan's ass.

Excited for this game. I have thoroughly enjoyed the first game. It was nice to see a fresh take on the series. Most 3D versions were awful. It would be neat to add a new 2D entry into the series with modern graphics and a killer soundtrack. Maybe add trophy support for Symphony of the Night. Ah... to dream...

I lost interest in Castlevania series after it went 3D. Clearly this series belongs big time to 2D world.

I hope that this game is a lot better than the first one. I wanted to finish the first one, I really did, but it felt like im playing some game from the early 2000's

I'm a fan of the old school Castlevania.  Lords of shadow one was one of biggest piles of crap I have ever played.  I'll Give this one the ole' passarooni.  Got better things to do with my time than play God of Vania.

Okay so anyone think that we need to find out who "The King of Angels" is in this game maybe hes the true real enemy who at the end agrees to let Dracula die if he can defeat him in battle.

Apparently some writer claims  "it trivializes sexual assault" coz Dracula killed a family or something

More than one character will be playable btw, LOS1 had an extra DLC character.

The first LOS wasn't exactly innovative, but it's the sort of games I really love. I understand that games like Journey and the Walking Dead are praised for their artisitic/narrative merits. But I'd choose LOS any day in the week. Hn'S, platforming, puzzles, spectacular bosses, cheesy/over the top story, great art direction, tons of different monsters and moves/techniques to learn. This kind of stuff is why I love gaming.

Can't wait for the sequel :)!!!

Oh yes, can't wait for this one, tried the demo and it was interesting....and I would recommend you guys to play Mirror of Fate, it's the event betweeen LOS and LOS2 and it's not SotN but it's close.

@hochstreck You know if do actual research there were books before movies.  And if you did even more research Brahm's Stokers Dracula existed before castlevania.

@Xx_DemonSoul_xX  Would absolutely love a 2D version, an homage to the original NES titles.

While we're dreaming, I'm also asking for another 2D Metroid!

@franzito In a world with next gen consoles and PC's with enough power to rip a house in half i just don't see it going back. Maybe for a small mobile release or arcade release on psn / live steam ect. The main primary games though are gonna be 3D going forward. Theres no reason they cant be good in 3D either. LOS really did try to stay faithful to many of the 2d mainstays. It had issues but all around was a good game. Hopefully LOS2 is much better

@franzitoClearly you belong in a 2D world. :P

They only had three games. Somebody will else make a 2D game. I look forward to it. Symphony is the best. But others will have ideas too. Quit living in the past. The series is big enough for many types of games.

@franzitoIf you haven't played the LOS series then that is a shallow comment for this game, also LOS: Mirror of Fate was in 2D.....

'The King of Angels' was one of the ways to describe Lucifer. So you will actually be facing him in this game.
