Having teased the project over the last month, Spanish developer Mercury Steam (Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series) today finally announced its next game. It's called Raiders of the Broken Planet. Writing on Facebook, the studio described the title as an "epic multiplayer online asymmetric adventure."

A single image has also been released--and there's a lot to take in. The character at the center, who is presumably one of the main characters, is smoking a cigar while preparing to punch someone in the face. He also wields a long rifle, has a receding hairline, and doesn't like shirts, apparently. In the background we see another enemy (or an ally?), while what appears to be a helicopter is further in the distance. All of this is taking place in some rocky chasm.

Mercury Steam is also directing people to this website to learn more about Raiders of the Broken Planet, but the site does not appear to be operational at this time.

There is no information yet on platforms for the game or when it will launch. Back in January 2014, Konami producer Dave Cox--who oversaw the Castlevania series before leaving the company later that year--said Mercury Steam's new game would be released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, but not Wii U. It remains to be seen if that is the case.

We will report back with more details on Raiders of the Broken Planet as they become available.
