In the summer of 2008, independent developer The Behemoth brought Castle Crashers to the Xbox Live Arcade. The game was critically adored and charted high on Microsoft's sales ladders, gathering more than 1 million players. That figure will grow further at the end of the month, when the game finally hits the PlayStation 3.

Castle Crashers developer The Behemoth today updated its development blog with an entry announcing the game's PlayStation Network debut date. Castle Crashers for the PSN will arrive on August 31 in North America priced on par with its Microsoft cousin at $15.

The Behemoth has not noted whether the PSN version of Castle Crashers will include any system-exclusive content or whether it will receive the King and Necromantic add-ons the XBLA version welcomed last year.

Also on The Behemoth's development plate this year is its third game, Battleblock Theater. Once dubbed a vague Game #3, Battleblock Theater is due out sometime in 2010 on XBLA and is a spiritual successor to the studio's first game, Alien Hominid.
