The game was previously slated only for PC, but is now expected to arrive for unspecified next-generation platforms.

"We are delighted to have fully funded Carmageddon: Reincarnation without having to go outside of the collective of our own company, shareholders, and fans," Stainless Games CEO Patrick Buckland said in a statement. "It allows us to maintain a true independence and creative control whilst not having to compromise quality or content by budgetary constraints."

Carmageddon: Reincarnation is currently scheduled to launch in December 2013, though it is not clear if development for next-gen platforms will see that release window pushed back.

Stainless Games released an iOS version of the original Carmageddon last year, while an Android version is in the works.
