Thirty race circuits, 30 other drivers, and a whole lot of mayhem - it's Carmageddon for the PlayStation, and it's due out this spring.

Developer SCi recently sent us tons of new information and screenshots from the UK version of the game; Sony has yet to approve everything here, so things may change when the game comes stateside, the name of the game included. But in the meanwhile, here's what we know.

Carmageddon for the PlayStation combines some elements of the PC's Carmegeddon and Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now!, like the fact that you'll be up against drivers from both games. But you'll also face cars unique to the PS, like a power-up pickup, a turbo mini, and a mean cop car. Meanwhile, you'll be driving an upgradable Eagle MK1.

One of the major attractions to the Carmageddon series was the ability to kill pedestrians - a feature that caused much controversy, as well as gamer devotion. SCi says that you'll still be able to destroy pedestrians, but that they're zombies. However, the zombies will have polygonal heads and bodies, but 2D arms and legs, which are detachable (to put it politely). Animals will be available for your crushing/killing pleasure as well.

Multiplayer will be split-screen and single-player tracks have fully destructible landscapes. And you'll have to break through things like bridges, elevators, and fake walls in order to find the secret tracks. Also, there will be city and ski resort tracks (the ski resort coming complete with a ski jump and bobsled). Finally, some of the levels will have themes like pinball.

As for modes, there's the general free-for-all that you'd expect (SCi explains that your car will visually dent on impact - an unusual PlayStation game feat), plus checkpoint racing and terminal tag (tag the other cars before time runs out).

We'll update you as soon as more official US information is available.
