Captain America and Iron Man might be the heroes at the center of Captain America: Civil War, but over the past week all the talk has been about Spider-Man. The legendary wallcrawler makes his Marvel Studios debut in the upcoming movie, and was revealed in the closing seconds of the trailer that was released last week. Now directors Joe and Anthony Russo have spoken about what fans can expect from his role in Civil War.

In a new interview with Collider, they discussed the decision to include him in the new trailer. "We're at a place where we can present him even in just a small taste," said Anthony Russo, with his brother Joe adding: "We thought it was a great way to reveal him. I think people are going to be happy with him in the movie, he's got a very interesting role in it."

Anthony went on to explain that the deal that had to be struck between Disney and Sony to allow Spidey to feature in Civil War was part of the reason that his involvement wasn't confirmed for a long time.

"We were very quiet about Spider-Man's involvement in the movie for much longer than we would have been," he said. "We were artificially silent on the character because it was such a sensitive business deal still being worked out, even while we were shooting.

"I'll say this: part of the fun of Spider-Man is that this film is basically a war amongst the Avengers, and Spidey does not have the baggage that all these other characters have. He enters the story after the conflict that is happening between the Avengers, and that gives him a very unique place in the story."

In other Spider-Man news, Sally Field, who played Aunt May in Spidey's last two movies at Sony, has been speaking candidly about her part in those films. The actress appeared on The Howard Stern Show, where she was asked about 2012's Amazing Spider-Man and its 2014 sequel. "It's not my kind of movie," she admitted, via The Wrap. "It's really hard to find a three-dimensional character in it. You work it as much as you can, but you can't put ten pounds of sh*t in a five pound bag."

Field went on to explain that she accepted the role in order to work with her friend, producer Laura Ziskin, who died in 2011. "But my friend Laura was the producer, and we knew it would be her last film, and she was my first producing partner," she said. "She was a spectacular human."

Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner. It will be released on May 6, 2016.
