While Ryu is riding high in GameSpot's Greatest Game Hero competition--having made it to the quarterfinals--he may soon have a new challenger. A teaser video has been posted on Capcom's Japanese site under a section marked "newwarrior," indicating that it will be updated at 5 p.m. JST tomorrow (9 a.m. BST, 1 a.m. PDT).

Street Fighter IV received a flurry of DLC shortly after launch with new game modes, improved online features, and a number of premium costume packs hitting the console marketplaces in the weeks after launch, but none has been seen since. The game has proved a financial boon for Capcom with its 2-million-sale first week helping to buoy the Japanese publisher's annual results, with some help from Resident Evil 5.

The brawler was released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in February and on the PC in July after its arcade debut in 2008. Five characters made their series debut in the arcade version--Abel, Crimson Viper, Rufus, El Fuerte, and the inimitable Seth--while the console and PC versions feature six characters not found in the arcades: Dan, Fei Long, Sakura, Cammy, Gen, and Rose.

The series features plenty of characters who have not been seen in this updated version, with Dee Jay and T-Hawk from Super Street Fighter II Turbo the most notable omissions from the franchise's heyday. The video presented on Capcom's site looks to present long-distance silhouette images of fighters in combat, though at no point is it clear that either of these characters is indeed new, nor is there enough detail to determine the identities of those in combat.
