Capcom takes it outside with PSP Street Fighter

Arcade conversion of Alpha 3 comes out swinging on Sony's portable with new characters and wireless multiplayer.

Ryu and the gang are claiming some new turf, as Capcom today has shipped the first PSP game in its flagship fighting franchise. Originally released in arcades six years ago, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max arrives on Sony's portable with more than 30 characters and a handful of new features.

In addition to the standard arcade mode, there's a new variable battle mode for 2-on-1 battles with fighters tagging out midmatch, a world tour mode in which players gain experience as they complete battles with a variety of stipulations, survival mode, final battle mode (cut straight to the last boss battle), and dramatic battle mode (which is like variable battle, only with all three fighters onscreen at all times). The game also adds a new fighter to the Alpha mix in the form of Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Evolution.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max is rated T for Teen and retails for $39.99. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's full review.

I've been spoiled by Xbox Live. The fact this game does not have online multiplayer is a dealbreaker for me. :(

Good point DJGeki. Why not just release a Street Fighter Anthology already? Oh wait, it's because they want to milk their customers to the tune of $40 a pop for a *single* SF game.... Anyway, where are my portable versions of Marvel vs. Capcom, Capcom vs. SNK, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, and The Last Blade 1&2? Put 'em on any platform, in fact....

Ah Capcom....The sequelitis keeps coming back.... While there are some compilations worth it (Capcom Classics Collection), they keep rehashing krap that is totally tired (Megaman anyone?), and played in all systems (from SNES to PS2) again and again. Has Capcom fired all its creative people? Give us more games like Killer 7 and Okami, and stop releasing I-have-already-played-this-1000-times krap! Oh wait..... It is for the Port Supported Portable.... Forget everything I have just said....

I'm probably going to end up picking this up just due to the fact that I already own nearly everything that is Street Fighter. I think I'm only missing an arcade board for SF3: Double Impact...but who wants that version anyway? In any case, why can't Capcom release a compilation with every single SF game released so far on it? Current gen systems (360 not included) are definitely capable of handling the games and loading quickly. Or what about a Street Fighter museum? Why not give us all those preliminary art sketches and posters, stories and backstage info that I know i'd love to see? I'm sure at some point, a "making-of" movie was made about one of these titles. Am I alone in thinking this?
