Capcom has officially announced Heavy Metal: Geomatrix for the Sega Dreamcast. The four-player deathmatch-style game is based on the Heavy Metal comic books, and it features 12 characters designed by one of the publication's artists, Simon Bisley. Kevin Eastman, owner and publisher of Heavy Metal magazine, is writing the game's story and will act as a creative consultant during the development of the game. Additionally, through an agreement with UK-based heavy metal music management firm Sanctuary Music, the game's soundtrack will include new songs from such metal groups as Megadeth and Iron Maiden.

"Heavy Metal: Geomatrix throws one to four players into the fantastic worlds of one of the most outrageous fantasy comic franchises ever and molds it perfectly with Capcom's seamless gameplay and animation for an all out deathmatch-style fighter," said Todd Thorson, director of marketing for Capcom Entertainment. "That, combined with an all-out head-banging soundtrack, will have gamers going nuts."

The team-based game includes four squads, each with three distinct members who were designed by Bisley specifically for the game. The 818 Stompers are made up of Hound, his girlfriend Slash, and Zeus. The 991 Elite team includes Sarge, Kassey, and Stab. The team leader of the 707 Metal Heads is Duke, and Di and Lance are the other members. And finally, the 323 Agents are made up of Phantom, Talbot, and Mayfly. There is a wide range of weapons in the game, including swords, firearms, bazookas, and booby traps, among others.

The game will be released in the spring of this year.
