Tuesday, Canopus Corporation officially announced the Pure3D II, a 3Dfx Voodoo2-based 3D accelerator with a total of 12MB of memory (4MB for the frame buffer, 8MB for textures).

The Pure3D II will come with two software controllers: Quick Control, for on-the-fly keyboard control for gamma correction and brightness; and Application Launcher, used to store presets for screen brightness, resolution, gamma correction, refresh rate, and color depth. OpenGL, Direct3D, and 3Dfx Glide support will be included.

"This new addition to our family of 3D accelerators is sure to keep us, as well as our users, in the lead," said Hiro Yamada, president of Canopus Corporation. "Pure3D II allows current games to run at higher frame rates to deliver fluid motion throughout complex scenes and also provides the necessary speeds for games coming out later this year."

According to Canopus, the Pure 3D II will be available the week of May 18 and will sell for about US$329.
