Candy Crush creator think it's worth up to $7.6 billion

King will price its IPO of 22.2 million shares at between $21 and $24 per share.

by

How much will Candy Crush creator King be worth when it goes public this month? As much as $7.6 billion, according to initial public offering (IPO) documents filed today with the Securities & Exchange Commission. The company, which will be traded as "KING", said today that it will price its IPO of 22.2 million shares at between $21 and $24 each.

After the IPO, King will have 314.9 million shares outstanding for a top valuation of around $7.6 billion.

You'll be able to buy shares in King on March 26, two underwriters told Reuters today. King will sell 15.5 million shares through the offering, while stockholders will sell 6.7 million.

King could be considered a risky investment. The social game studio has a massive audience of 128 million daily active users and over 1.2 billion daily game sessions, but Candy Crush Saga makes up 93 million of those daily users and accounts for 1.085 billion of those games.

King has made headlines so far in 2014 for its staunch stance on intellectual property (IP). Last month, King responded to the recent wave of criticisms lodged against the company concerning its trademark request for the word "Candy," its opposition to The Banner Saga, and one indie developer's claim that they stole his game. The developer of CandySwipe has since come out to deride King for trying to revoke his trademark.

I don't understand why this is worth that much...  This game is obviously a fad and will fail at some point.  The company won't be worth crap in a few years.

When a company so grossly overvalues itself like this it's usually because they know it's doomed, and the execs want to grab as much money as they can before fleeing.

I miss the days when a game making loads of money meant it was at least slightly good.

The weird thing is that almost all of the money generated from garbage like this come from high-yield 'whales' who make up maybe half a percent of the user base.  The average user of this game has no impact on profitability.  I'm sure this IPO will be the same thing; the average broker knows this company will implode in a few years, as they're simply a bubble with no foundation for stability or growth.  Yet a handful of dummies will buy in because 'social games are the future!' or whatever.

The entire value of King is their user data; they know who the suckers are and how to reach them.  Selling that data (a la Facebook) will be much more viable than Melon Stacking Saga, or whatever their next glossy turd is.

This company is in it for the short term gain. This is why they will fail.

candy crush is just a fad. like all  fads, it will peak (perhaps it already has) and quickly fall into decline. the company's value will be vastly reduced and those with shares will lose a lot of money. to invest in such a company is a ludicrous idea.

This company is hilarious. It reminds me of your friend's "friend" that can always "do you one better".

Wow, is the average American really that stupid? Candy Crush is amongst the lamest games I've ever played, and cannot understand the appeal. Is it because the game is like an idiot, poor-man's Tetris wannabe? Candy Crush Saga is a rich man trapped in a poor man's body. I hope the nimrods who invest in their garbage stock go broke, CCS is destroying society as we know it.

It's a trap! Once the Candy Crush fad ends, that stock will crater faster than you can say "Farmville".

Any one buying into these is silly and enforcing these types of exploitive mobile gaming scams, disagreeing is nothing short of a straw man argument.

Anyone who wants to make money, go open a trade account.  The stock will dip the first week, possibly hitting as low as $15-$16.  But since it's new and doesn't have a bottom, wait for it to stabilize at the low number.  Buy it.  Wait for it to hit $20+, sell.  33% Profit on your money.

ENJOY!

absurd for an ipo really and they haven't proven that the can be successful beyond that one game. I guess i cant blame then for going for it though. When you know you know you have a crappy product that isn't gonna last long you gotta try to pry open the door somehow before the steam runs out.

@Thanatos2k  Probably it will act as a bubble and their price falls down to ultimately, $10-15 ish....

Xristophoros

@arrow2thekneeXD  that is the ironic thing about all these success stories. these companies are allowed to get away with stealing the concept / mechanics of other games and simply add a new skin. why is that okay? the only thing that separates a game made by king or rovio from other companies is that they are wealthy enough to market the living shit out of their games. more people are exposed to them and this allows sales to flourish.

Xristophoros
Xristophoros

@slainta  well to be fair they have a ton of small crappy games :D but yea, candy crush is their bread and butter at the moment. it won't last though.

Xristophoros

@HowlPendragon  yup. usually it is sad when honest, hard working companies go under. king.com is not one of those  companies though and have already let their power and greed get the better of them. i will rejoice when they crash. it will be a textbook example of how NOT to run a business in the game industry that others can learn from.

HIT3kNology

@kitmeep Quite possibly, but in a matter of time candy will have more values than their shares

@Gen007  Especially considering they literally stole that game directly from Pop Cap Games. And I'm pretty sure pop cap didn't even come up with it.

Candy Crush= Bejeweled

Angry Birds=This old flash game where you used different catapults (Normal sized, Large Sized, Exploding Ammo, Shotgun Ammo) to attack a King and his Family (IE the pigs). You only ever had to hit the King, but the guards and family were worth extra. It's on Addicting Games and you can check the dates too, they came out ages before Angry Birds
