C&C3 blasts down factory

PC version of Tiberium Wars finishes development, invades stores March 26; demo downloaded more than 1 million times since release.

One of gaming's biggest franchises is one step closer to making its return to the limelight this month. The PC version of Electronic Arts' Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars has gone gold and is expected to be in stores on March 26.

"Everyone fights, no one quits!"

Tiberium Wars is the first game in the series since 2003's Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour and brings back one of the trademarks of the early games in the franchise--live-action video. Full-motion video cutscenes return with a bang, sporting the acting talent of sci-fi vets Josh Holloway (Lost), Billy Dee Williams (The Empire Strikes Back), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), and Joe Kucan, who reprises his role as the archvillain Kane. Also appearing is Michael Ironside (pictured), the voice of Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell games and star of sci-fi classics such as Starship Troopers and Total Recall.

EA also announced that several PC gamers have already done a few tours of Tiberium Wars--the demo for the game was downloaded more than 1 million times in its first week. The demo, which includes a tutorial and two single-player missions, is currently available from GameSpot Downloads.

Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars is rated T for Teen and will retail for $49.99. An Xbox 360 version is also in the works and will be released later this year. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

You can play as nod if you keep your finger on the "N" key when you select it when assigning your team. It works even though it's greyed out.

I want to try the demo out for myself, hopefully they bring it out for Marketplace.

1 million for the demo is a lot but I think the Battlefield 2 demo was able to get more. Is this demo out for XBLA Marketplace yet?

Its kind of hard for me to get back into C&C after playing company of heroes and supreme commander, one of the most fustrating things that I found in the demo was how completely useless the defences were, but then again you weren't allowed to play nod with the mighty obelisk. That said I'm definitely going to buy this game unless it reviews to something stupidly low which after the demo doesn't seem likely.

I couldn't get into Supreme Commander, but the C&C3 demo tickled me just where I itched.

Being a C&C fan, this has to be good even though EA are making it

Dudes! A cutscene starring Michael Ironside is so cool that it would even make a game like Big Rigs worth buying. :)

I really had my doubts about EA making the next True C&C, but if the demo is any indication, we're in for one wild ride. Great job guys.

Here's what I have found out : "Kasavin is now working for Electronic Arts' Los Angeles Studio as Associate Producer for the PC version of Command & Conquer 3." (source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_kasavin) That piece of information convinced me to get this game. :)

Here's the deal: Supreme Commander is a new franchise that's winning an audience with innovative gameplay on an unprecedented scale. C&C3 is hoping to succeed... by copying a previous incarnation. Neither is this good for the franchise, it's not a good image for EA who are notorious for recycling game titles with minimal gameplay improvements (FIFA, John Madden, NHL, Fight Night, etc.). The fact that C&C3 already plays awfully a lot like Generals won't help it in the RTS competition ...so let's hope these cut-scenes are pretty damn good!

I just noticed, EA is hiring a LOT of major actor industry talent on board. These guys are major actors (and actresses in Helfer's case). I haven't had the chance to play the demo yet (will get to soon :D), but so far CnC 3 looks awesome

HAHAHA so thats why Sam Fisher's voice sounds so familiar. That guy's voice is pretty cool, and Starship Troopers rocked!

Demo was very awesome until it kept crashing. If the retail doesn't crash like the demo, it will be really awesome. I loved the full motion video, it goes back to a time where 3d wasn't big yet. Will get when it comes out.

I remember Michael Ironside from the days of the TV-series V (for Victory) That was a great tv series with a great storyline. The human rebels fighting against incredible odds.

I liked the demo. I played it so many times, and its easy to get into since I'm a huge noob in rts. This game looks really good and seem to have an awesome story too, cant wait to get it.

RTS on a console will never feel right. Ill admit it would be nice to have it on the big screen though.

I miss the old skool C&C games....I loved them on PC way back when...Look forward to getting it on 360.

It won't, I've played it and it's pretty average, for the most part. Not to say that it couldn't be fun for someone who HAS NOT played either Company of Heroes or Supreme Commander (or even Dawn of War) but once you've played any of those RTS games, you've played much better than this new and fugly, C&C 3. Next time make a better effort, EA, the bar has been set far higher than you've reached with this latest C&C sequel.

Well for almost all RTS I go PC but I can't help but consider the 360 version. I've been playing the living hell out of Supreme Commander and I almost feel like I need a break from sitting in front of my PC. The thought of kicking some butt on the 42" plasma on Xbox360 is something to consider. No matter what though, I'm getting this game.

I'm gonna have to catch up with First Decade 1st (never played C&C so 1st Decade is my best shot), but this looks to be pretty sick.

Einhanderkiller said "I heard/read that the 360 was significantly different than the PC version. Significantly different as in it was a dumbed-down version with simpler gameplay." No they dumbed down the PC version for the 360 version basically, which is why all the units move very slow and don't benefit from a great micro ability, well the useful units anyway, thats another problem, spamming Mammoths is the most effective way to play this shallow game.

My only problem that I've noticed so far is that the music isn't as pumping as the original C&C series. Too bad they're not using the same composer.

You usually have to wait a couple weeks after the game went Gold so they can print the copies of the game. 'Going Gold' means that they have sent the gold master copy to the printers. See, when a game Goes Gold, they don't actually have the game printed up and ready to sell. Takes a while to print millions of CDs and manuals and boxes and such.

T for Teen, M for Mature, why are they called this? Surely, if you're going to specify that T is for Teen and M is for mature every single time the rating is given, you should just rate them Teen and Mature and save yourself 4 letters and a space!

Chainblast

After playing the demo I must say that the game engine looks quite superb. However from the demo it was still just C&C. Is that enough for RTS gamers to bite hard? Probably, but for myself it's the same old. I'll stick to Company of Heroes until the stand-alone expansion comes out when I roll into Europe as the Canadians. \m/ Oh yeah, the live action cut scenes are so done, who's idea was it to bring them back?

So THIS is the game that Greg Kasavin left to work on? The game was nearly finished by the time he left. He didn't have time to do anything with it.

noncreativeman - "Just wish Westwood was still around to be making this series, rather than the empire that is EA. Also, a T for teen rating, wtf? Seeing all this great acting talent, and knowing what restraints this rating will have imposed on the content/story, makes me quite sad. Am I the only adult who associates the M rating with better games?" Do you know what kind of crazy violent/absurdly sexual game they would have to make to have an "M" rating on an RTS? What's the point? Would it make the game any better?

This does look good...but will it be enough to bring back the popularity of RTS that peaked in the late 90s?
