Matrix Games and Adanac Command Studies have today announced the imminent release of Campaigns on the Danube 1805 & 1809. Years in the making by developer and designer Frank Hunter, the title promises players an accurate simulation of military command in the Napoleonic era.

"We believe the Napoleonic era needs more good computer wargames on an operational and strategic scale," said David Heath, director of operations at Matrix Games. "Frank Hunter has met that challenge with this excellent treatment of Napoleon's battles along the Danube in 1805 and 1809."

"Campaigns on the Danube is a game that has received a lot of design work, play-testing, and attention," added Frank Hunter of Adanac Command Studies. "The most recent cooperation with Matrix Games has really helped to polish this title, and I hope Napoleonic wargamers everywhere will enjoy this simulation of the historical challenges of command."

Campaigns on the Danube features a hex-based map covering central Europe from Ulm in the west to Olmutz in the northeast. Units at players' disposal as they progress through the game's seven scenarios will include cavalry, infantry, artillery, engineers, supply wagons, depots, and many more. Intriguingly, as the overall commander of an army, players will be issuing orders to their corps commanders who will in turn relay those orders to the relevant units. Because of this, issuing orders takes time, and it's entirely possible for orders to get lost completely as a result of enemy actions, an accident, or something as simple as a messenger getting lost.
