Campaign 1776 Cancelled

HPS Simulations upcoming title dies before seeing retail.

More than a week after the game was announced, HPS Simulations unveiled Tuesday that it had to cancel the publishing deal for Campaign 1776: The American Revolution, a tactical and operational level simulation of the battles that made up the American Revolution.

Why the sudden change? John Tiller, designer and programmer of Campaign 1776 and a contractual designer for Talonsoft, first heard from Take-Two lawyers soon after the announcement of the game was made. Campaign 1776 was virtually completed (with many scenarios, a bevy of campaigns, and even period music) when the Sword of Damocles fell on it.

"Unfortunately, Take-Two considered this game to be a violation of my contracts with Talonsoft, and so I decided to withdraw the game in its current form," said Tiller. He had previously designed the game engines for Talonsoft's Battleground and Campaign series.

Tiller's other announced game, Smolensk 41, the first of a new series for HPS, is still under development, though it has been delayed somewhat.
