Camera-adjustment update coming to Resident Evil 6

Free update coming to Capcom's zombie shooter allows users to widen camera view; also adds instantly playable Ada Wong campaign and No Hope difficulty.

Gamers who found Resident Evil 6's camera angles too tight are in luck. Capcom has announced that a new free update for the game will allow users to widen the view to see more of the surrounding area. The difference is demonstrated in the screenshot below.

Players already content with the camera won't be forced into the new view, as the wider angle is an optional feature. The update is scheduled to go live on all platforms sometime in mid-December.

Capcom also announced that the free Resident Evil 6 update will add new language and subtitle options. With the update applied, gamers can mix English audio with subtitles in another language.

Lastly, the update makes the Ada Wong campaign playable from the get-go. Previously, her campaign was only playable after players completed the game's three other story arcs. Additionally, a new co-op partner will be added to Ada Wong's campaign, though gamers can play through the missions alone if they wish.

I played the demo and i was really impressed with the game!. Controls and graphics were amazing. However, it did not have the demonic and creepy atmosphere like the first Resident Evil games (RE 1, 2, Code:VERONICA)

OK, for those of you that hasn't played the game and believe the reviewer about bad controls and camera, I'll give you 1 game that has a very similar control and camera: DEAD SPACE 1 & 2. I'm not joking, these two games controls the same way as one another, with the exception of melees and the monsters.... wait, IT IS MOSTLY THE SAME! So by giving Resident Evil 6 4.5, he's mocking Dead Space as well. Wow, I am very surprised that nobody give this comparison yet. This is genius!

Love to hear these many great news, especially, the wider camera view.

i don't see peoples problem with the camera. you can freely move it to where you want to look so what's the problem?

Wait for the inevitable "Gold Edition" to come out with all bug fixes and probably the DLCs.

Man.. there's been a lot of mixed reviews for RE6 and most of them being really bad. For a big title like resident evil and to me the father of the survival horror genre for games... RE6 was one of the most anticipated game this year. Capcom dropped the ball on that big time... but its funny how a few seem to think otherwise. I might still play it but not anytime soon.

Well, the camera wasn't the only issue stopping me buying it, but I guess at least they're listening...although you'd have thought they got enough feedback from the demo releases to realise it.

nice move, too bad this game is just ok,i prefer re5 over this, but of course, re4 is the best:)this game would be much better if 1.less qte2.less linear3.inventory system instead of skill points4.better pacing in terms of puzzle and action5.unlocks (where are my secret weapons?)

that's an improvement, but much more is needed for my liking. However, I would prefer to have the option to have the ADA Wong campaign unlocked. I hope they continue to work on updates to improve the game. I like the concepts and the website that is linked with challenges... a lot of potential just isn't polished enough and to many things were added which ruined the game for me... neeede a few more months for a better quality game, but I still don't like the direction the franchise is going.

I mean RE6 it's a alright game. just too much QTE and the Camera are way too zoomed for me. I've give up on the story after 4. RE5 to me it's like what happened to Jill oh she "died" then NVM she's alive, WAIT SEC when did all this happened again?

Is it just me or do the comments on this page sound like that "self entitlement" some developers have been talking about, where the users believe they have more say so of what goes into a game than the developers. I just got this game 12 hours ago and I have bouts of frustration, but it's not like I'm taking it back. Why, because outside of its faults it's still the best and only title of its kind on the market right now. Until something comes along and outshines it then there's really nothing to talk about.

BTW, if you're still complaining about QTE's then you're going to have a tough time with future titles because QTE's will be widely used for cinematic scenarios. Developers and writers see them as tools for immersion, cutscene interactivity that can branch into different directions. For RE6 mostly success or failure outcomes.

I am 1000% certain that Resident Evil 6 is a lot better and longer than Black Ops 2 + Warfighter combined. Why the hell should people waste their money on these 2 generic fps garbage anyway? And the RE6 review itself is filled with lies from a Resident Evil fanboy that thinks RE6 is filled with action so it's not good because of it. Um, hello? RE 2, 3, Code Veronica, Dead Aim, 4 and 5 is good even though its more action than the first one, why complain about it in RE6? Too late much? Just look at the playthrough and decide for yourself if it's good or not, not from a review.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CghYAIwU1o&feature=relmfu

And this is the Warfighter playthrough so you people don't buy that game. You can see it's actually shorter in total than Resident Evil 6 by a long mile and looks generic enough. And of course there's a bullshit download HD content before actually starting the game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o1dgbdqxaQ

RE fanboys that says "it's not RE anymore so it sucks" should be ashamed of yourself because you sound ridiculous, and you people that talk crap about the game without playing the full game for yourself should look first before speaking, or else you will buy the generic FPS games just because the review said so. Don't listen to them.

Or just buy the new game for the 3DS Zero Escape: Virture's Last Reward. I bet that game will be game of the year, unless game sites don't allow a portable game to be that popular.

@Chico_Azteca Not entirely but yes. Anyhow, at least they didn't make the same nasty mistake. Contents on disc isn't totally the bad idea as long as they don't charge us more, but we prefer unlocking them by playing than from the update (The publisher is so afraid of second hand resell that's why).

@SiLenTWarrior29 There are a couple of in-game moments that are great, but they are accompanied by inconsistent production value and clunky controls. It's almost as if this game needed another year of work done to it. Weird. But worth a play if you're into the series.

@YIGIF What do you mean best and only title of its kid? Do you mean surivial horror games? There are better survival horror games like Dead Space, Amnesia: the Dark Descent, Deadly Premonition, and many more games that I don't even know of?

vinion2000
vinion2000

@YIGIF sigh another person who accepts blindly but i wanted to respond to this "self entitlement" argument that the industry has been using lately as a smoke screen.

"self entitlement" means that a person feels like he deserves more than he actually is getting.  developers say that we have overly high expectations and because of this we are often disappointed. sigh

anyone who has been playing games for the past decade and a half will have noticed that games aren't getting more in content they are getting less.  there was a time where a company gave an entire third of the game away (DOOM) for free just so we could play their game. now we have to plead with them for a demo and probably never get one. there was a time that after a year they would give you a entire disc filled with a new campaign and maps as an expansion for less than half the price of the original. now we pay almost the same price for scraps of DLC here and there. Campaigns have become shorter, Single player is becoming obsolete and complexity is being exchanged for fly-by-night gameplay. A commenter once said that a game like Demon Souls, which has been celebrated for its difficulty,  a few years back would have been a normal game. Manual Saves have been replaced by auto saves and multiple check points so you never have to worry about dying. they hardly even put ultra hard mores anymore out of fear someone stops playing the game cause ultra mode was too hard.

Developers have forgotten that we have played the Half Lifes, The Dooms, The Quakes, The Marios, The Sonics, The Civilizations, The Buldur Gates etc (sorry if i left out your genre) so we know and have a good expectation of what a good game should be. so when they say we feel "entitled" their pissing all over us while giving us less and wanting us to pay more. they want to appeal to the 12hr crowd while forgetting the dedicated 40hr+ gamers.

I'm sorry but if you want to live the lie fine but don't feed it to me or other ppl. SELF ENTITLEMENT is another JARGON for DEVELOPER COMMERCIALISM/CUSTOMER EXPLOITATION.

SeAzhrei
SeAzhrei

@YIGIF In a way you just answered that "entitlement" crack yourself. What the developers and writers "see" something as has no real bearing. QTE's are the exact opposite of immersion. Personally when I see those damn prompts appear on screen (and keep in mind I'm not just talking about RE6) I'm fixated wholly on getting them right. It may as well be a text adventure for all the attention I'm giving the scene itself. I don't think you can deny that is just flat backwards game development.

DarthLod

@yamilvirginio It's really just Capcom milking the RE name for cash. We actually weren't supposed to have a new RE for many years. It was stated so after RE5 was released. But, obviously Capcom wanted to cash in so they rushed this pile of crap out instead of waiting a few years and making a grade A 10/10 game for once.

96augment

Look I totally get where your coming from I think RE6 is great as well and that gamespot review was total BS and I also agree that it's better then alot of the generic same old same old crap thats coming out this year but if ppl wanna hate on the game it's there prerogative. You shouldn't let there negative attitude toward the game ruin your enjoyment of the game. What system are you on maybe we can co-op sometime I'm on PS3 my PSN ID is the same as my gamespot ID.

DarthLod
DarthLod

@Kaz32 The RE6 review is full of HONESTY. Not fanboyism. Maybe you enjoy ten million QTE's and redundant overdone cinematic cut scenes with sloppy controls and a bad camera? Maybe you enjoy Capcom milking a franchise with a sub-par quality game that was obviously rushed to cash in on the RE name? Maybe you just can't handle other peoples views and opinions on a game because you just don't want to admit that just because it has RE in the titles doesn't mean it is gold.

jtthegame316

@96augment

I'm a zombie nut, I grew up with zombies. I liked the original Alien with Yaphet Cotto and Sigourney Weaver, hell Predator is my uncle, but Zombies are greater, Night of the Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, sung to me with bad breath. But even with all that I know better than to be biased simply because of that, I'm enjoying Dead Space 3 in conjunction with RE6 at present, both of which are not perfect might I add.

Games like Dead Space come out and they try to compare RE to it? That's laughable, it's like comparing Lebron James to Michael Jordan, no comparison. Besides, they belong to completely different subgenres so yeah Dead Space may be great in its own right, it probably is, but overall no series that's only on its third iteration should compare to the RE series, it's silly.

I won't even mention Amnesia, just won't.

Next you'll be telling me how Saints Row is so much better than GTA IV, then when that fails you'll start running off all the open world titles, exaggerating their positives, including past iterations of the series.

YIGIF
YIGIF

@vinion2000 Ok...so what are you doing about it. Point me to your website that's bringing back the good old days when games completely satisfied the consumer, when they were perfect. A return to the old can be a step backward can it not, and how easy do you think that will be? Oh, you mean value, substance, well who's responsible for that, the developers or their owners. A title becomes widely successful you make many iterations of it, removing and adding to the original as much as possible. No studio, NO STUDIO, has hit that trifecta, support, innovation, and creative freedom, there's always been something greatly deficient. So, if a team of developers loses one of those things they try to compensate for it, if they lose more than one, they don't even try at all, losing passion for the project.

You have it twisted, I'm on the behalf of the artists if you must know, who receive complete ridicule from all sides, who get shut down, or disbanded, for either not delivering on expectations, not delivering something different, and all things in between. And people like you don't help by sitting back, pointing fingers and buying the games anyway only to complain of no change. The users have to stop buying the games, PERIOD, in protest stop buying AAA titles like RE6, COD, GTA, Uncharted, GOW, HALO, etc. and put their money where their mouth is, support studios doing different and innovative things. So yeah gamer entitlement does exist, you people are the example, my people are simply playing what we feel we will enjoy, how stupid right?

BTW, one of the most misleading political phrases, "Change doesn't happen from the top down, it happens from the bottom up", was used in times of heightened excitement, so people never understood what it really meant. Take a timeout, and think about the validity of that, maybe that's why we're here, hm?

YIGIF
YIGIF

@SeAzhrei  @YIGIF Give me forward game development examples please? You seem to be the most informed, even saying I'm the self entitled one, wow. You don't read, you pick an choose what you want, I never said what I expected from games, I simply gave my opinion on where I thought games that are heavily story driven will be headed, maybe I'll be wrong. QTE's may not always be necessary, hell they may even be completely unnecessary to some people, but experienced developers wouldn't add them to games if they had absolutely no positive effect on the player. Remember, the best games are the ones that are tested during development, you don't leave in crap you don't need but believe me this is not always the case. So this is a matter of trust, I trust the developers that made this RE6 on the implementation of QTE's and that they will take me where I need to go in the story.

What the developers see has no real bearing? LOL, Yeah, the above portion of this comment now seems to be much too generous, and for that I'm sorry SeAzhroo.

Kaz32

DarthLod
DarthLod

@96augment  Because to these fanboys its blasphemy to state your opinion against RE6.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@DarthLod This is the only time in Capcom's life that they actually did something right, which surprises me considering how much money-milking they did with their costumes dlcs, ending dlcs, day 1 dlcs and so on. Don't mock RE6 because it's one of their games that doesn't deserve it. Mock Operation Racoon City instead, that game is garbage.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@DarthLod If you played the game already, those things are not that much of an issue Bad camera is not a problem of mine because it's ok. Capcom actually makes an exception with this game and go all out, so to call this particular game sub-par and rushed is not true at all and is an insult to the 4 different teams that made such a long campaign for each characters. Even with the problems like QTE's and controls, doesn't RE4 and 5 have plenty of QTEs and clunky controls? Why complain about it now instead of before?

But honestly, in comparison with other linear action games that's going to come out this month, like what I mention Warfighter and Black Ops 2 which are just the same old fps, Resident Evil 6 is actually the best of these 3. Giving RE6 a 4.5 because it's different and not like the old games is an insult. It should at least got a 6 or a 7.

Me enjoy Capcom milking a franchise? Have you seen Street Fighter and their abundance of Re-releases that's even worse because it's like 100 of them? And Activision milking the hell out of their COD games?

YIGIF
YIGIF

@SeAzhrei

In the end, you will understand or deny it for deeper reasons of no concern to me.

"Fyi, I'm gonna pick and choose again. Cause it apparently ticks you off."

Who responded to who here, I guess your not gonna give me examples of forward game development, I only asked for comparing examples to contradict my opinion that QTE's can add to immersion, that's all.

Okay, no, not vexed in the least, this is the internet, but you can and will think whatever you like. "Trolls are gonna troll, and haters are gonna hate", quoting from Abby Martin of Breaking the Set, check it out, it's good watch sometimes.

"What a developer "see's" something as; HAS. NO. BEARING. At all. You don't buy their visions. You buy the final form it ends up in."

Sooo you didn't understand what I meant by "see's", alright. Like a formal artists works, as you collect his/her pieces, you're collecting what they envisioned. Same with a game development studio, ultimately you receive what they "see" or "envision". Granted, whatever someone envisions never comes out exactly as they see it, perfection doesn't exist.

"Team Ninja can "see" jiggle physics as the greatest programming advancement of our generation. They clearly do and god bless them for it."

Can see, "can" being the key word here. Truth is no one knows what they see, but did they envision it to be a massive progression in game development, I wouldn't think so, I wouldn't prejudge them like that. Did they see it as a nice touch, yeah, and many people did for that matter including other studios.

"Similarly, qte's are not (I'll repeat that, NOT) necessary, as you put it. It is the developers "choice" to design a game's story in such a way that they need to be included."

Never said they were necessary, said they may not always be necessary, hell maybe completely unnecessary to some people, like yourself. So it's true, most game's do just fine without them, like jiggle physics, but the nitty-gritty of this is can they be a positive influence of immersion into an experience, I'm of the opinion that they can and like I said, ultimately, it can be about trust.

This has become drawn out, I appreciate your words, don't need an apology, glad you agree boycotting will never happen, and hope you will enjoy the conclusive ending from my former reply as much as possible, I do like charity.

Thank you, and may Joe Pesci bless you SeAzhroo.

SeAzhrei
SeAzhrei

@YIGIF Fyi, I'm gonna pick and choose again. Cause it apparently ticks you off.

You accuse ME of not reading. So lets see if YOU can catch the point this time around. What a developer "see's" something as; HAS. NO. BEARING. At all. You don't buy their visions. You buy the final form it ends up in. Team Ninja can "see" jiggle physics as the greatest programming advancement of our generation. They clearly do and god bless them for it. But the ultimate truth is that its little more than a waste of resources that adds nothing save a giggle factor. Similarly, qte's are not (I'll repeat that, NOT) necessary, as you put it. It is the developers "choice" to design a game's story in such a way that they need to be included. Not everything has to be knockdown, drag-out all up in your face every second you know. But no, now we have to pack as much pizazz in to each millisecond to draw in the people letting the CoD disc stop smoking. I'm not opposed to qte's on principle. Hell, I enjoyed watching my best friend play Ninja Blade for the short time I was able to. But playing it? My previous comment about their un-immersiveness still stands.

And its good to be for the artists, really everyone should be. I felt Bioware shouldn't have bothered updating the ending to ME3, but the fact they did anyway earned them a good chunk of my respect back. That they really were considering their detractor's words. Its not easy to hear criticism sometimes after all. But when those same artists start insulting and belittling their patrons? The people who BOUGHT their damn game and just feel that they could have done better? You are correct. That SHOULD result in a boycott. But we both know it won't.

Lastly, and in all seriousness, I did not mean to insinuate that you were entitled any more than anyone else. I'm honestly not sure how you got that impression but I do apologize for it. Though looking at the end of your reply, I have to wonder if all the "polite edits" I made to this point were much too generous. And I'm sorry for that too.

@96augment I got 1 perfect game if you want to save money, Mark of the Ninja. It's a downloadable sneaking game that's surprisingly long for $15. It's on Steam and XboxLive arcade. Guess you have to buy it on Steam then.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@96augment Ah, or not, just buy awesome games on the Iphone! There's plenty of them, and they're mostly only $1! I'll list a few: Infinity Blade 2, Contract Killer 2, Mass Effect Infiltrator, King of Fighters, Street Fighter 4 Volt, Punch Quest, Dark Meadows the Pact, Infinite Warrior, Avengers Initiative, phew, that's a lot.

96augment
96augment

@Kaz32 I don't mind saving a lot. I usually save a lot when I play MGS games for the first time. My PC is a piece of crap. I want it on my PS3. I will wait until Black Friday. By then, most of the games I want will be at a price I can afford. If I have enough money, then I will buy Resident Evil 6.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@96augment Hitman Absolution is the perfect stealth game next month. Dishonored will most likely be kind of a letdown.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@96augment Better to wait when the price is lower, or trade some games, but it is the best action game besides those generic fps that I talked about.

I explore everything already, sidequests, boneshards, those totems to get upgrades, whatever. It's easy to find them because you are given this heart that detects secret objects by the Outsider, the guy that gives Corvo his powers. The most insulting of all the exploration part is this small golds collected section that calculates how many coins you got in 1 stage. It's annoying, there's 568 coins in 1 level while I only got 248, and you are not even given a clue of where the coins are. It's all scattered all over the place and there's only 3 coins at most in 1 place if you are lucky enough to find one. The coins you get from knocking guards down doesn't count. It's like why would I waste my time collecting coins when I have too much money already just from knocking guys down? It's pointless because I have enough money all the time to get upgrades like better armor and more crossbow ammo, but you can't get more than 10 sleeping darts and explosive darts, which is bullshit.

It's short, believe me. It's only 9 missions and you have to save really often cause you will screw up once in a while. You can only change how the final mission is played whether you decide to kill people or spare them in each missions. Killing more makes the place a warzone while killing less or none makes it like MGS. I advice that if you want to buy it, buy it for the PC. If you play it on consoles, prepare to save a lot.

96augment
96augment

@Kaz32  I stopped playing easy mode or Amateur mode or whatever mode. Most of the games I play, I usually start on normal mode. Easy mode is .............too easy. Maybe I'll get Resident Evil 6 when the price is lower. But that's a big maybe. It seems to be a lot like Resident Evil 5. I played Resident Evil 5. It was ok. But it wasn't my most favorite game.

There's too many games that I really want. And I don't have enough money for all of them. I still want to try out Dishonored. The trailers look really good. Besides, I love stealth games. If it really is like Bioshock and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, then I am going to love this game. 8 hours? I heard it was 20 hours if you explored everything.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@96augment Like I told you before, don't buy it if you don't want it. I won't force you.

Chris's campaign has no QTE'S at all, and it's 5 hours long. In total it's 30+ hours long if you play as all characters. Ada Wong's campaign is entirely singleplayer. There's an amateur mode that will skip the QTE entirely. Or, like you said if you want to play alone, there's this "skills" option before you start the game that has the "Lone Wolf" skill, where your AI partner will not help you at all. You'll be on your own, but I won't advice that. The zombies are brutal, even on Amateur mode, so you will need your partner to help you. It's advisable when you play offline, you can choose it before you start the game btw, to buy a skill like "increase item drop" and "field medic" that will allow you to get more ammo and your partner to heal you every time your health is low, although that's better in the Professional difficulty, playing on normal with that skill seems like cheating.

Don't buy Dishonored because the score is high. I played it. It's nothing special. It's basically Bioshock + Deus Ex Human Revolution, the plot is predictable, and there's only 2 endings. The ending's the same as the first Bioshock too, and the final boss is pathetic. I killed him 10 times in a row without dying once. Maybe it's because it's developed by the same team, whatever. This game encourages you to spare enemies, but the only way to do that is to choke them from behind and use sleeping darts. That's it. There's no option to punch a guy out cold in front of you, which I consider very weird. In total the game is only 8 hours long. There's little extras to play again, unless you want achievements.

96augment
96augment

@Kaz32 I hate quick-time events. So, for that reason alone, I won't get Resident Evil 6. Also, I hated having an A.I. partner in Resident Evil 5. She wasn't that bad. But I prefer playing by myself. The Co-op partner should have been optional. There's a lot of games I want to get. Resident Evil 6 isn't one of them. It's just not my cup of tea.

I can't wait for Hitman: Absolution, Assassin's Creed 3, and Farcry 3. Also, I want to get Dishonored and Borderlands 2. I just got to get more money first. I don't have a DS. When  I get more money, I might get a 3DS next year.

Kaz32
Kaz32

@96augmentSee what I told you before? Medal of Honor Warfighter, 007 Legends and Black Ops 2 are 3 bad generic fps that should NOT be played at all, and yet people preorder them. It's a shame because RE6 beats those games by a long mile, and it's longer too. I won't force you to buy it, just know that out of ALL the linear action games out right now, Resident Evil 6 is the best of them. If you disregard that it's part of Resident Evil or whatever you call it, it's still one of the best action game this year. Or just wait for Hitman Absolution, Assassins Creed 3 and Farcry 3, which will also be great games with predictably high scores like 80 or 90. Just see.

If you don't know what a visual novel is, then Zero Escape is the best damn game you will ever play. PSVITA also has the game. I'll advise you to play the first game 999 first on the DS.

@DarthLod You're playing 3 long campaigns that plays 10-5 hours each. If each character have QTE's then of course it will feel like there's too much. Which campaign did you finish anyway?

@Kaz32 Not complaining, it's called an opinion. Learn the difference. I HAVE played RE6 and it was horribly lackluster. RE5 and 4 were ten times better in every single way. Including the camera and controls. It was rushed and put out to use the RE name. Flat out. It shows, as did Racoon City show its lacklusterness. The QTE's were hardly ever there in RE5 and 4 compared to the crap in RE6. Yes, I have said that I didn't like the QTE's in those games as well, but RE6 takes it to an whole new level of QTE overdose. It utterly RUINS the game. And no, I don't participate in the milkfests these companies do with franchises such as RE,COD, AC, Gears, God of War, all the Nintendo rehashes, etc. I quit all those franchises. I wont be buying any of their new games.
