Though Activision has yet to formally announce Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, new intelligence continues to trickle out. Today, it comes from Craig Fairbrass, an iconic voice actor from the series.

Fairbrass--who voiced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's Gaz and Modern Warfare 2's Ghost--was a guest on Andy Goldstein's Sports Bar radio show, a United Kingdom program, last night. The voice actor said he has been working on something he can't say too much about.

When will Activision announce Modern Warfare 3?

"Yeah, I did Call of Duty Modern Warfare as Gaz, then I did Ghost in Modern Warfare 2, which has become one of the most iconic figures in the history of computer games," he said.

"I've just been out in [Los Angeles] doing something…I've been out doing some bits and pieces, and one of it's to do with err…can't say too much, you know what I mean…"

[UPDATE] As it turns out, Fairbrass offered more than just a passing correlation to his work in LA and his Call of Duty resume. As part of the same interview, he went on to confirm that he recorded voice work for Activision earlier this year, in addition to describing a bit of the process.

"You do like five, six, seven sessions…and they record it in this great big studio in Los Angeles, which is absolutely mental," he said. "I was at it from January to the end of February, Activision took me to their hub, I was a guest for the day, and they took me all around and they showed me how the game--you know, these games are like $200 million to produce. This place was like the size of 10 factories, there was all these people working."

Fairbrass also provided a sales update for the Modern Warfare franchise, saying Activision informed him that 27 million units had now been sold. Though Fairbrass wasn't explicitly clear, that figure likely pertains to just Modern Warfare 2, as Activision said in June 2010 that the game had already sold more than 20 million units. Further, Activision said in August 2009 that the original Modern Warfare had itself sold more than 14 million units. As of November 2009, franchise sales stood at more than 55 million units.

Infinity Ward--based in Los Angeles--is reportedly working on Modern Warfare 3 alongside Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games. The game is expected to ship this November, in line with previous releases in the now-annualized series.
