Call of Duty: Ghosts perk system explained

Infinity Ward touts "incredible level of customization"; 35 perks across seven categories will be available.

by

In a post on the Call of Duty website, Infinity Ward detailed the perk system for next week's Call of Duty: Ghosts, the first game in the series for next-generation systems.

Infinity Ward boasted that the perk system for the game will offer an "incredible level of customization." The game will ship with 35 perks weighted with a point value of 1 to 5.

Loadouts will have a pool of 8 points to spend on perks, for a total of 12 depending on loadout decisions. On top of the 8 initial points, a single perk point is associated with the primary and secondary weapon slots, as well as lethal and tactical.

Taking away any of the items for an additional perk point will allow for a maximum of 12 points to spend, Infinity Ward said.

"If you’re a Perk fanatic, you're welcome to forgo all weapons and equipment, starting each spawn with only a knife in hand and 12 points' worth of perks. It's your choice," the developer said.

Regarding how players will unlock perks, Infinity Ward said this can be done in two ways. Every perk is marked with a level and a squad point cost. Once players reach the listed level, the perk will be automatically unlocked. Players can unlock perks early by spending squad points for immediate access, Infinity Ward said.

The 35 perks in Call of Duty: Ghosts belong to seven different categories, which players can mix and match as they see fit to create a "near unlimited" number of possible combinations. These categories are: speed (sleight of hand, stalker), handling (on the go, steady aim), stealth (takedown, incog, motion sensor), awareness (sitrep, wiretap), resistance (focus, blast shield), equipment (extra tactical, extra attachment), and elite (gambler, ping).

A detailed breakdown of all 35 Call of Duty: Ghosts perks and their attributes is available on the Call of Duty website. Call of Duty: Ghosts launches November 5 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will be released as launch titles next month.

Perks is what reinvented the FPS in CoD4.  For some reason, they're not trying to reinvent anymore.  They just keep stacking more crap on top of each other.  I'll play each new CoD but I won't be as impressed with it until they figure out a way to reinvent themselves again.  We need a new "perk".

Oh so its this time of the year again xD I have some hopes for this game to actually turn up pretty good but like with every CoD no pre-order or season pass for me as the MP itself will probably feel stale after a month or so. Unleast this game has some really mindbending stuff I cannot see how people will still buy into it, I mean even the hardcore CoD gamers should feel fed up by now and I am playing this series since CoD United Offensive on the PC and I got bored after MW3. As mentioned I still have hopes this will turn out good (at least on the PC) now that they have integrated dedicated servers and bigger player maps. So far not even BF4 impressed me that much even thou its better tweaked than BF3 but it just feels like a paintjob, people shoe played BF3 to death will know what I mean.

I'll keep my eye on this. I wish they would could down in price like other games but maybe i'll pick this one up. We'll see, i usually skip a couple of years before i buy a cod game.

So many haters of COD here. Well done bros. keep hating it. Dont ever play it. Nobody cares about all your bullshit comments anyway. Goodluck to all the COD haters. Continue to lead your miserable trolling every COD thread life. You all do have a life you know? Haha. But well since when haters make any impact at all? They are just empty vessels. Save $60, buy your mama some nice panties. Since $60 is so much money to you, go get a proper job and stop working in the slums. Sorry if i said correctly about you "people".

As long as they do not adopt a pay to win scheme and have perks points available to buy, this will be fine.

By the way does anyone know if the campaign can be done co op through xbl or link ?

Hope Riley (the dog) will be available for multiplayer...I can only fathom the infinite possibilities of using him, like a kamikaze radar or animal shield, lol!

I'm really glad they didn't add the annoying hit indicators the campaign. They ruined Black ops 2 campaign with that lame X indicator. I just hope this game has bullet wounds and gore of the treyarch games! The one thing that has always sucked about IW COD games, is lack of carnage.

Here is my problem with this... its just a phase.  They announce all these cool little things like they did with BO2, and i'll admit they were pretty cool, but these cool features end up dying a quick death.

Incredible level of customization. Players still somehow wind up using the same setup.

They should just go back to the Modern Warfare 1 layout.

Also, the website describes 14 perks, not "all 35."

What about modes.  I hated BO2 because of the lack of hardcore modes in particular domination (plus I also hated the changes to domination).  Also like to HC demolition.  Also really hated the perk system in BO2.

All I see is the same perk system with a different layout.

while this may seem to give us full control,it can also be a big mess, there will be expolits,if they was to give us a public beta for once, they would realize what doesnt work and what does.Oh wait they dont care about those who know what it takes to make the game feel somewhat balanced.

@richter_1978 he is in the multiplayer... as a killstreak. guards you and attacks anything within a certain range of you.

@turtlag562 They die in a year because they kill the previous iteration with a brand-spanking new one the next year.

@strangemk1 Agreed. Especially the specialist package, which is what I'm gonna use. There is still no official information about how that's actually gonna work. It's 5 days to launch, and I find it ridiculous that they haven't revealed something that important.

@SteamyPotatoes Just like trained this article but your like was the most deserving.

@Printul_Noptii @RoyialNetwork Yeah, the COD prices are pretty ridiculous. The map packs are the worst though, they are easily 2-3 times more expensive than comparable DLC in other games. COD DLC cost the same as other new games, and the map packs come so late that you only have a few months to play them until the next COD comes out. The lasting value is very limited, and that's on top of the fact that the value for money is also very bad. On top of that you actually pay to become somewhat segregated, since there will be less players to meet when everyone has different map pack configurations.

dellers

@PSYCHOV3N0M @SurlyPotato Maybe technically. However, MW2 was more fun to me and had the best online maps in the series by far. It's unplayable now though, since cheaters/"hackers" have taken it over and basically control the whole game. If I play for two hours chances are I find 2-4 legit lobbies, and chances are someone will try to screw up my statistics, unlocks and menus at least once. I have to backup my game after each legit round, since 4/5 games are screwing everything up.
