Activision is doing something it has never done before with the Call of Duty series. The publisher announced today that it will host a free Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer demo on Xbox Live this weekend for Xbox One and PC.

The promotion runs March 7-10. It will mark the first time Activision has ever offered a multiplayer demo for a Call of Duty game.

During the special weekend you'll be able to try out three multiplayer maps (Strikezone, Warhawk, and Prison Break), as well as three multiplayer modes: Search & Rescue, Domination, and Team Deathmatch. You'll also get to try out the Extinction game mode.

It's unclear if the Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer demo will require Xbox Live Gold. Though Activision has never released a formal Call of Duty multiplayer demo before, the developer did hold a public beta for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in 2007.
