Call of Duty: Ghosts Code of Conduct polices derogatory, racially charged language

A newly published Code of Conduct from Infinity Ward has laid out the consequences for cheating and offensive language.

Infinity Ward has published a Code of Conduct for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which explains how the developer will respond to different disruptive behaviors in the game.

Infinity Ward will make a concerted effort to curb "offensive behavior." It says that any user who is found to use aggressive, offensive, derogatory, or racially charged language is subject to penalty. On the first offense, the user will be temporarily banned from playing online, anywhere from 48 hours to two weeks. If the the user repeats this behavior, he can be temporarily banned again, have his stats reset, have his split-screen privileges revoked, and be blocked permanently from appearing in leaderboards.

Permanent bans, however, are reserved for different offenses, meaning that a user could conceivably keep harassing other players with vile language as long as he is willing to suffer the consequences.

Any user who is caught with pirated copy of the game will be permanently banned immediately, as will any user who is caught modding or hacking the game for a competitive advantage.

"Boosting," meaning users who collude to exploit the game in order to gain XP and other rewards, can be temporarily banned or have their stats reset, as do users who exploit bugs in the game code.

You can find the Call of Duty: Ghosts Code of Conduct on the game's official website.

So the same people who brought us "F.A.G.S. - Fight Against Grenade Spam" are now the moral compass authority of CoD gamers?

Wonderful.

Well, at least there is one derogatory term we know Infinity Ward approves your use of.    <_<

ummm can you do this to cod4 and mw2 as well

edit: i mean punishing hackers

Hmm. So insulting another human being just for being exactly who they are gets you a temporary suspension from the game. Start fucking with Activision's property though and that'll REALLY piss them off.

Good to know.

What a waste of time...this game will always be a cesspit due to it's very nature....extreme simplicity and a sense of reward for it.

I see all your angry comments, but i care not to understand why you are so angry...

As long as it is fun and fair to play a game, smile and be happy...

CODG is a great online game and very well balanced.

So anyone hacking the game or won't have reasonable chatting in mind, thus changing the game experience to the more negative, and should not be allowed to continue in a destructive path.

IW has a fair point.

They should be banning people for being dumb enough to buy another COD.

If CoD community needs to be disciplined like this... Well it only shows what kind of people plays this game. After second CoD:MW2, CoD community become magnet for idiots.

Great. Ban pirates ips for years and years. Support software development and be part of the community or get out.

There's goes the whole COD Community. IW and basically Activision are going ban everyone including us Adults. Bye COD!!

So if players can get banned for playing with a pirated copy, I wonder if IW would ban someone who was playing online with people who bought the game from a retailer that broke the street date?  I doubt it, but IW never laid down their policy in the event this would happen.  The people who get the game early from a retailer breaking the street date are still playing a 100% legally owned copy.

Good for Infinity Ward, I thoroughly support them in the fight against derogatory language. But I have to ask why four-and-a-bit-years later? This is something which should have been tackled a long time ago, still better late than never, I suppose.

Killzone Shadow Fall's online community is great; instead of racists or homophobes, you get people accidentally blasting static or music through their mics at you

might just be Sony's fault, that mono earbud is pretty low quality

I find it funny that they punish boosting with bans and stat resets, even boldly equate it to people who abuse game exploits. When it was them that had the ignorant decision to only let you go for a select few Operations at a time? And tie their much-promoted "thousands of outfit variations" to the unlocking of said Operations which can't even be progressed towards in Squad Mode? A choice that, in a way, encourages boosting? *sigh*

Yeah right.  Like they actually enforce these rules.  Look at CoD MW3.. There is still the invisibility cheat and users using it.  MW2 is still hacked and unplayable since the majority of lobbies are hacked.

You're telling me they are going to give a damn with Ghost?  Yeah right.  They are laughing their arses to the bank.  They already got your money.

So what you're saying is.... You're banning 75%+ of the players?

I got rid of the game.  Multiplayer felt broken with the respawn system alone.

Not an issue on Xbox Live, its more of a PSN thing, on xbox live we have talks about differential equations and nonlinear regressions and similiar subjects

My friend with a PS4 says the 12 year old racists from XBL moved there. On Xbox One, I find the crowd is significantly more mature.

Anyone else notice this too?

They have too many players 8-14 years old for all of us old fucks to use bad language that is why they didn't give this game a M rating........oh wait.

Angrypcgamenerd

Okay I get the pirating part - but they shouldn't have mentioned about offensive language.... It's just like Microsoft - they have their own reputation system put in place. That's the reason why I don't play CoD - too many children playing.

I don't play much multiplayer in games, but that's cool. Too bad Call of Duty multiplayer is mostly played by children, literally, and I guess figuratively as well.

this offensive language punishment stuff has gotten way out of hand.  I understand banning from hacks and exploitation, but other than that, I think that the mute button and blacklist is all you need to keep a pleasant gaming session. In fact, if you cant even use those simple tools to keep your own chat clean then you should probably be restricted to private play anyway. I mean sh*t there's already a vote to kick option, a ban is just unnecessary at this point in any game with that option.

you mean savagely murder computerized avatars?

I doubt the kiddies on the other end of the screen are incurring bullet and stab wounds. but maybe in the 'matrix' where death in the computer world would trigger real death, youd have a point

hell youd might as well incriminate all gaming sites as oxymoronic for celebrating any digitized violence in reviews and trailers whilst policing verbal harrassment in their community.

@Sevenizz  So your going by what your "Friend with a PS4" says? Have you actually played the game?

Come on people didn't we learn how to solve problems like this in Elementary School? Whats your problem? Racism and all that stuff online. Play both versions YOURSELF for the same amounts of time each. Then make a judgement call for yourself.

I can't take anything that starts with "My friend with a.." seriously. Find out for yourself.

I barely even use a mic anymore on Xbox live. It's not worth getting riled up over some stupid digital shit. The arguments on live are sometimes more idiotic than Internet debates.

I shouldn't have to incorporate that into my gameplay.

We've been hearing this since Halo 2 days.

@DeathwachMarine  Should you have to use tools to ensure you have a decent gameplay experience? In MW2 I had to mute those unable to hold their tongues individually.

Personally I'd ban a fair few people for life, especially those who like to turn the music up real loud and stick their mic next to a speaker.

It takes less to turn your mic off than it does to mute people. If you can't play nice, don't play at all!

DeathwachMarine
DeathwachMarine

@Kunakai @DeathwachMarine I have absolutely no problem abusing that mute button. It's so damn easy and quick to do. I don't care how loud your music is, I still don't think that person should be banned from playing the game.  Banned from a server is reasonable, but not the entire online portion. And why not just kick them if they're such a problem?
