Call of Duty: Ghosts available now on Xbox Games Store

Infinity Ward's shooter available digitally day-and-date with retail version for Xbox 360.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is available to download today through the Xbox Games Store, making the Infinity Ward-developed first-person shooter one of the first high-profile games to be available digitally for Xbox 360 day-and-date with the retail version.

Like the boxed copy, the downloadable Xbox 360 version sells for $60. The download will take up 7.51GB of hard drive space, according to the listing. Call of Duty: Ghosts for PlayStation 3 is also available through the PlayStation Store today for $60 as part of Sony's Day 1 Digital campaign.

All Xbox One games will be available digitally day-and-date with their retail counterparts, including Call of Duty: Ghosts, which hits Microsoft's next-generation console as a launch title on November 22.

Call of Duty: Ghosts, featuring a franchise-first Extinction mode, launched today for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U. Xbox One and PS4 versions will follow at launch later this month. For more, check out GameSpot's review.

Why this is on news page?

In Australia we can get some games half price imported from the otherside of the planet for half the price of Games on Demand or just get a PC copy.

Say goodbye to physical media, console peasants.

@billlabowski I would have thought so too back in 2005-6, but the size of games has grown much faster than increases in most residential broadband speeds.  As a result, I can still drive to the store and buy a disc much faster than I can download many of today's top tier games.  And I don't have to re-do the process if I want to play those games again six months later.

@bizuit @billlabowski I started using Steam mostly because all the local places to buy PC games dried up.  :-(  I'm a huge fan of Steam now, but I still miss the ability to look at a neatly arranged box collection on the bookshelf.

The Dgitial Download version should be $40 or less. I wouldn't pay $60 for a digital copy of a game. That's just stupid.

@blackace  They don't want to start a war with Walmart, EB games ex ex.; Plus they know alot us will still pay the $60 for it day one

Don't start buying AA titles online it will bring an end to going to the store to get your games where I enjoy going to 'Chat' with other gamers at the store & your having something for your money in your hands .

@Bedsidelee Agreed.  I like to support my local retailers in the hopes that I'll always have a place to congregate with other like-minded gamers.  Besides, there's usually no price benefit to buying digitally, so what's the point?

jakesnakeel

@Bedsidelee I don't have the patience to get off the couch and deal with finding and inserting discs any more.  Digital has spoiled me.  And my only local retailer is GameStop where I always walk out worried that I've contracted some horrible disease.

I thought infinity ward left activision

blackace

@raddys2001 They did. Most of the people left at IF aren't the original team members. Most of them went to Respawn.

As a collector of games i find this a little absurd, why would you make the digital download version the same as a retail release. Imagine how much more money Microsoft & Sony would make if they discounted the price to say $54.99. I mean its not like they would lose to much, they may even sell more to those not interested in physical releases.

quinnd6

It's 70 euros on games on demand in Europe so a total rip off over here. Ridiculous. I had always intended to buy the physical copy anyway but I'm just pointing out how they always try to rip off people in Europe on their Microsoft store with the price.  $60 is around 45 euros Microsoft you complete dickheads.

Evil_Sidekick
Evil_Sidekick

Yeah, i noticed that yesterday on Games on Demand. Cool move...not that i'll buy it, but it's cool to have it at launch.

@quinnd6 "It's 70 euros on games on demand in Europe so a total rip off over here."..yeah, i noticed that too

Maybe you want to check the sony store next time you go in there both of these companies believe in no vaseilne as far as I can tell. Why would anyone pay for full price download with no overhead the price should automatically be reduced. The answer is simple it's just like a creating spouse it is because we allow them to do it.

"Like the boxed copy, the downloadable Xbox 360 version sells for $60... Call of Duty: Ghosts for PlayStation 3 is also available through the PlayStation Store today for $60" Yeah, because all the costs associated with retail games are still in effect with downloadable versions, right? Or maybe, just maybe, they figure that people will pay 60 dollars for it, no matter where they get it. Having the digital version at a lower price would also be unfair to the people who buy the retail version. Yes, I'm sure that's also part of the reason.

omg this game is so good... I went through this corridor and waited for AI to open the door for me, then 20 scripted enemies appeared and i shot them all in 10sec flat, but one guy was still alive so I got a QTE to avoid his knife, then i killed him and a cutscene showed a dog peeing on the corpses.

SurlyPotato

@sgt_hunter Hence stick to the multiplayer, modern day gaming has become nothing more than an interactive movie.

@sgt_hunter BF4?? Oh Cod... yah both are about the same when it comes to that in SP.

So a QTE is the only good thing to come out of Ghosts?..... SOLD!

Bout time. Sony has had their Day 1 Digital program in place for PS3 for like 2 years. Same with Vita from launch. Even Nintendo has had this in place already with both the Wii U and 3DS. The 360 was pretty much the only system that didn't have this feature.

ah, the lovely sounds of kids bickering over their petty differences as usual. just another typical day at gamespot.

Gamespot: "HEADLINES!! CALL OF DUTY IS NOW ON THE XBOX GAME STORE!!!
... (it's uh, also out on Steam and PSN at the very same time, but we had to put Xbox into the headlines and just mention the other two platforms somewhere in the article below where no one really cares anymore)".

Honestly, what kind of article is this?

nickpeck36
nickpeck36

@Nightflash28 Because everyone already knew those two online stores had it maybe?  For whatever reason, this is the first day one digital download on XBL (again, no idea why they haven't done it since forever ago).. hence the Xbox 360 / XBL in the title.

I will be getting Ryse on Day One launch. Perhaps I will pick this up at a later date. Looks too much like the same old same old.

Saidrex

@thomasn7 if there is 1 game worse than arcade CoD it is definetly Ryse, press buttons or not you will win game anyway. Terrific. Just hold controller in your hands and pretend that it is you playing, not A.I.

nickpeck36
nickpeck36

@Saidrex @thomasn7 Again, a misinformed fanboy.  Watch and read the latest info about it and you will notice that is NOT the case.... it's not an easy game and it has a lot of timing based moves.  :|

That being said, I'm holding off on review's myself.  It looks cool but I'm not sure if it's something I'd play a ton (though if the co op MP is anything like ME3's I'll check it out).

This game is not worth anything. I got my physical copy at midnight, played it till 5 in the morning and boy it SUCKED donkey a$$. The same boring campaign, a bit of underwater FISH AI demonstration, some "dog bites enemy a$$" situations and that sums up this game in a nutshell. Those of you who like it, well you are either COD fan boys OR playing a game in this franchise for the 1st time. Believe me, I was a HUGE COD fan boy back in the day. I loved the first 2 CODs, then MW1, MW2. Hell, I even played Black Ops1. But after that, I had enough. It was the same piece of crap over and over again. I am sick and tired of it. I can't believe GS gave this game an 8. This is not worth our time. Especially not worth it as a digital download. If you want to play it, get it on disc so that you can exchange it or trade it back.

@starjay009 Well lucky for me if I want to play it and get rid of it we have Family Video here to rent it from so makes the cost way less costly. :)

Go into rage fit but rush out to buy every new COD on midnight release... Meh hating on a games is now a expensive hobby I guess.

nickpeck36
nickpeck36

@starjay009 So you have hated it that long yet you bought the game?  Boy, not so smart huh?  Obviously MOST of the people buying it are fans of the series, just like BF4 (which isn't all that great either mind you).

LOL, pretty sure anyone who actually was excited for this game already know this Eddie.  But way to keep up on that "breaking news".

Saidrex

@Riddick123 it's an ad, looks like Activision pays GS not only for good reviews but also for hidden ads in news.

Hurvl

@StHapns247 @Saidrex @Riddick123 An 8/10 is quite low compared to what previous CoD's got. Many CoD games have gotten 9 or 8,5. Also, I don't buy the conspiracy theory of paid off reviews that someone mentions as an explanation to why the reviewer had a different opinion than you.

nickpeck36
nickpeck36

@Riddick123 Actually, Xbox 360 owners pretty much found out last nite that MS was releasing the game digitally at midnight.  They never mentioned anything previously about this.  So it is sort of news, but not really.
