Call of Duty: Ghosts appears to borrow cutscene animations from Modern Warfare 2

New video shows Infinity Ward's latest Call of Duty game uses strikingly similar cutscene animations and framing to 2009 game.

by

Call of Duty: Ghosts features a cutscene that bears a striking resemblance to a scene from 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, YouTube user "satantribal" revealed in a new video (below).

Similar character animations and framing for both games are shown in the video. Both Call of Duty games were developed by Infinity Ward.

An Activision representative was not immediately available to comment.

Activision announced this morning that Call of Duty: Ghosts generated $1 billion at retail in 24 hours, though that figure includes units sold to retailers, not necessarily consumers.

Guys, guys! I know this will shock you, but GTA V is using animations and assets from GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. In fact, I heard they borrowed the whole engine!!! Geez get over it. There are a lot off reasons not to buy CoD. This is only a tiny one.

This shows what a bunch of lazy muthafuckaz they are. I haven't bought Ghosts yet for this same reason. I prefer BF4 this year

Lol. Same animations :D

From same buildings with different skin, to same animations with different situation. What have i already said about this series? The "new" Call of Duty is always a copy paste of previous one. Glad that now we are finally going to get rid of the whole series.

What if it's deliberate? What if they're trolling the people who say it's the same every year?

The game hasn't changed significantly in years but this really is taking the P, even by CoD standards.

Who knew, LOL??? About time people start noticing those games are carbon copies of each other...

Like it or not, every studio does that. Why everyone likes so much to kick CoD in the meatballs? I, personally, see all the many flaws CoD games have, but I still find it fun to play sometimes. I don't see people saying anything about Disney using the same animations over and over... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWKo5veKjVU#t=54 Not saying I like it, or agree with it, all I'm saying is that you should criticize everyone who does that, not only CoD.

Capcom has been re-using assets for years too.Nothing new under the sun, just artistic laziness and cost savings.

And why wouldnt they? Why would they bother making it good when everyones preordered it anyway, Its easy money. They're farming your wallet,  and the next harvest can only come too late.

It's not like anyone needed proof of Activision's copy&paste game development but it is still nice to have one.

One of many reasons this piece of crap is sitting on a 2.2 metacritic score.

This is news?
People are LEGITIMATELY surprised at this?
What, did you HONESTLY think Activision worked hard to bring you this game?
That it wouldn`t be another shameless rehash of the same old formula?
No! Because Activision knows most of you poor schlubs and kids raised on CAWWADOODY will keep buying the same game at 60 bucks, year after year, time after time, despite being what is fundamentally the same game.
And it made $1 Billion in sales on the FIRST DAY!
Even worse, there's already ANOTHER CAWWADOODY ready to release in 2014!
This is why the market is flooded with sub-par, BROWN-N-BLOOM, generic military first person shooters.
BECAUSE PEOPLE KEEP BUYING THEM. THE SAME GAME. OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Hell, even Battlefield 4 is fundamentally the same!
It's a sad fate for the industry. Games like Painkiller, or Serious Sam are lost to the ages. FPS that were actually unique, and well crafted. Games where they gave you lots of big guns, that all functioned uniquely, and enemies that actually had half decent AI. And why are those games going the way of the dinosaur?
Because gamers keep shoving money into developers pockets for the newest Medal of Duty Battlefield 6. Games with the same core gameplay mechanics, the same guns year after year after year, the same god damn boring color schemes, with the same boring plot twists in the story (HURR RUSSIANS ARE BAD. MURRICUH GOOD. DEFEND OUR FREEDOMS) and the same homophobic, racist child ridden online community.
Why can't we go back to the golden days? Where games were colorful, developers actually had the freedom to make games they wanted, where FPS were actually challenging and the guns weren't all Assault Rifles, or where in multiplayer you actually had to fight for better weapons/health packs instead of crying red jam and breathing heavily behind a tree until your good as new? Where multiplayer was actually skill based and fair (like Quake) instead of "create a class and just lob grenades everywhere!"
I now know why.
Because people would rather play Modern Warfare 2 IN SPACE then a well constructed game worth their hard earned $60 bucks.
Oh wait I forgot... Most people buy CAWWADOODY to play online, to use the same old guns, with the same old perks, on the same old maps, with the same old shitty online community, and the single player story is literally designed to be a throw-away, even on Veteran difficulty.
That's actually really funny, now that I think about it- people paying $60 dollars only to access %50 of the game.
As I said, I'm honestly shocked that people consider this "news" to be "shocking" or "dishonorable".
You've been playing the same game for the past 5 years. And nothing can stop you from buying the next 20 installments, regardless of how much of a blatant copy they are of each other.

Recycling may be good for the planet, but not for the gamer. This is one of the reasons why so many gamers have no respect for the COD franchise, everyone knows they've been doing this for years. I'm not saying "copy and paste" isn't a common thing in this industry, other developers do this too, but at least try to make it less obvious.

EddieDominguez

That's kind of lazy. I'm not going to pretend like I know anything about creating a game, but I would think if you have two years to create something you could at least use original material. I was on the fence about picking this up for next gen, but this just doesn't make me feel like they really value their customers as much as they should.

Nosnitsttam

Infinity ward reusing assets from a previous title?? nooooooooo! honestly is this REALLY news? they stopped creating anything "new" after modern warfare. these days it's treyarch taking all the risks with the franchise, only to have IW come in and scrap all the progress they've made. both companies need to get on the same page and stop removing things that made the series better, just because they have some kind of petty grudge

@Ripper_TV OK, so? If people enjoy that, who cares if they buy it? You don't like it, don't buy it. No one is forcing you to play COD. COD sells a lot which means more consoles are sold and more developers make games for said console due to the large user base.

@vhiran that is the user score, its at 74 for game critics/reviewers, but yes it is probably deserving of a 2.2/10.

LiquidOcelot145

@vhiran
Regrettably, the damage is already done. It's already made 1 Billion in sales. At this point, even if they never sold another single copy of Ghosts at all, worldwide, they would still have enough DOSH to fund another 3 or 4 CAWWADOODY games. Metacritic scores and negative reviews cannot undo this travesty. And thus our fate is sealed in stone- prepare for another 10 years of CoD. But don't call it a grave- It's the future we chose for ourselves. We made this bed of chaos... Now we must lay in it

@LiquidOcelot145 Just one correction, it didn´t sold 1$ Billion in the first day, what happened was that retailers were given copies on the value of 1$Billion, but as far as we know it still hasn´t gotten over the mark of 1$Billion or else Activision had already announced it, instead they said they have "sold-in (retailers)" 1 Billion...

@warriors30 LOL at your profile pic. I loves me some Steph Curry and he is my favorite player to watch, but I'm sorry I just can't take that pic seriously. He's no hardass, just a badass on the court. Really, the NBA as a whole is kind of boring to me, but Steph is one of the bright spots. Oh yeah, Harden is pretty fun to watch also.

@Nosnitsttam they are not using the same engine, same texture mapping, same mechanics, they are coopy pasting the exact same animations in a cutscene, thats not reusing assets, thats f ing with consumer laughing!

@THizzle7XU A waste of effort. Treyarch and IW are talented guys. I want innovative games from them.

@LiquidOcelot145 @vhiran This game did not sell $1 billion ... Activision has shipped worth of $1 billion to retail stores, it does not mean by any mean that it has sold that much to customers! there is a big different

It actually did surprise me. I know a lot of people make jokes about this series being a yearly cut and paste franchise but I wasn't expecting them to literally take a cut and paste approach to this game.

@tightwad34 @warriors30 Hmm, I think this pic isn't meant to be taken seriously. ;) He knows he's no bad ass, he's just one of the most down to earth guys in the NBA in my opinion... and a killer behind the 3 point line. Always a pleasure to meet a fellow Curry fan.

@techs3ek Hey dumbass 1 Billion shipped is 1 Billion SOLD!!! The games are not shipped on consignment you fucking idiot. Doesnt matter if it's sold to consumer or not. Retailers are buyers as well.

Seymour47
Seymour47

@LiquidOcelot145 @techs3ek @vhiran The difference is that if those $1 billion in sales to the stores doesn't result in $1 billion in sales to the customer, the stores will order less the next time around. That, in turn, will hurt the developer significantly.

LiquidOcelot145
LiquidOcelot145

@techs3ek @LiquidOcelot145 @vhiran So what you're saying is... They didn't make 1 billion in sales by selling to consumers, but made 1 billion by selling to retail stores...? So... What's the difference? Still sounds likes they're a billion dollars richer to me. I mean I'm no grand business CEO or anything but I'm pretty sure sales are sales and money is money no matter who buys it. Unless you care to explain your rational of "it's not really $1 billion in sales, but it's still $1 billion in profit!" to me because I'm totally lost on the redundancy of your statement.

Ignorance is bliss, ain't it?
But do you feel that? That feel of regret or dismay?
That's the feel of your eyes opening for the first time... And now you can see CAWWADOODY for what it truly is. There are none so blind as those who will not see... Welcome to the real world, Neo
