Call of Duty: Elite iOS app launches tomorrow

Beachhead Studios bringing mobile iteration of stat-tracking service to iOS devices tomorrow, next week for Android-powered mobiles.

by

Activision's Call of Duty statistic-tracking and entertainment hub Call of Duty: Elite has already attracted 1 million paid subscribers, but the service isn't finished growing yet.

Call of Duty: Elite makes its mobile debut tomorrow.

Speaking to Joystiq today, Beachhead Studios' Chacko Sonny revealed that the iOS iteration of Call of Duty: Elite will be released tomorrow, with an Android version debuting a week later on January 17.

"Part of the reason they're not up yet is because we learned a tremendous amount at launch about testing and scaling and making sure that things are at the level that the community really, really wants it to be at before releasing them into the wild," Sonny told Joystiq.

Both downloads are free and are part of the complimentary benefits of Call of Duty: Elite. The apps were originally set for release when Call of Duty: Elite launched in November. However, a string of launch snafus kept the apps unavailable.

With the Call of Duty: Elite iOS and Android app, gamers can customize and deploy weapon loadouts, view recent matches, track progress toward challenges, and view career statistics like kill/death ratios and other general player information.

jeez, do you guys still get fun from playing a game? what's the use of having a milion way to look at your stats? When you have a video game, don't you just play it? Damn I hate what the industry became since it is fueled with masses of braindead!

Cause you've got nothing better to do while on the go than review your CoD stats, right?

What Activision lacks in innovation for their games, they certainly are very creative in coming up with new ways to get into people's wallets. What happens to the people who didn't subcribe to Elite. Do they have to pay?

So, reading a few of the comments... "this app will not get you laid" "cant wait to laugh at the people I see using this" "Like that's going to help you get a hot girl on the metro." Wow I was not aware people are using phone apps to appeal to the opposite sex, or that people actually look to see what apps others are using on their phones. But then again I don't use public transportation, and never find myself in such a crowded situation so strangers are looking over my back to spy on my phone's screen... Still can't understand the girl-getting part of it either, but maybe I'm just old-school.

So your saying instead of reading a book on my iPad.... I can view stats about my video game?! Thank god for another useless app I won't get! And as for the free part, isn't it gonna be "free" to the subscribers of the elite service? Hate to say this but if I have to pay for it out the ass, it is less than not free...it's very unfree... Oh, I see, it'll allow me to see the k/d ratio for free, anything beyond that is "free."

Right, and why is this useful? As much as I hate CoD, I'd suspect that its players want to play the game, not pore over its statistics while they're waiting for the bus.

@Evenios. Actually, Call of Duty Elite works best on the PC. Just Google "Call of Duty elite" and create an account.

What is the point of this? "Oh, damn, I am out of the house. I can't play CoD. The apps suck (nazi zombies). I'll just look at my stats!!" Like that's going to help you get a hot girl on the metro.

@pman2525 Huh. Must've missed that part. Wait. Something free? From Activision?! This year truly must be the year the world ends.
