Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Gets First-Ever Double Cryptokey Weekend

Starting today!

Double XP weekends for Call of Duty games are nothing new, but Treyarch Studios is switching things up a bit with the first-ever 2X Cryptokey weekend. As announced on Twitter, the special, weekend-only event for Call of Duty: Black Ops III begins today, January 15, at 10 AM PST and runs through Tuesday, January 19 at 10 AM PST. That's a pretty liberal interpretation of "weekend," but we don't expect Treyarch will receive any complaints...

Cryptokeys are unlocked through regular multiplayer progress and can be spent on Supply Drops from Black Ops III's Black Market store. This weekend, you'll unlock them twice as fast, while of course you still also have the ability to pay real-world money to unlock Supply Drops right away.

The Black Market is only available for Black Ops III on PS4, Xbox One, and PC--not PS3 and Xbox 360,

In other news about Black Ops III, the shooter was the best-selling physical game in the United States for all of 2015, The NPD Group announced this week. In addition, the franchise has now reached 250 million copies sold, a new all-time high.

Black Ops III's first expansion pack, Awakening, arrives in February. Everyone who preorders the game's Season Pass at GameStop get this cool-looking, double-sided poster.
