Activision and Treyarch have announced new details regarding the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer beta, including specifics on how big the download is and which maps and modes will be available.

When the PS4 version of the beta begins on August 19, you'll be able to choose from seven modes: Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, Domination, Demolition, Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Capture the Flag.

These will be playable across three maps. Here's how Activision describes each of them:

  • Hunted: This big game hunting lodge is situated beneath a waterfall in the lush mountains of Ethiopia, where rugged terrain opens up to long sightlines and a stealthy underwater pathway.
  • Combine: Set in the remote Egyptian Sahara, this vertical farming and sustainability research facility plays fast and frenetic with tight interiors, an open middle, and a dangerous flank path.
  • Evac: An abandoned emergency evacuation zone atop an overgrown rooftop in the middle of Singapore's flooded quarantine zone.

As we noted earlier this week, the trailer below describes the beta as having 3+ maps and 7+ modes, suggesting more could be added to this initial lineup. For now, though, these are the only maps and modes we know for sure will be in the beta.

Also included is the new weapon paintshop feature, which allows for custom designs to be made for guns, and eight different specialists, each of which is detailed on Treyarch's website.

With a fairly large amount of content on hand, the beta will weigh in at around 15 GB, according to an FAQ about the beta.

Progress made during the beta will not transfer to the full game, and there will be caps on how far you'll be allowed to progress, though these weren't specified.

The beta is set to run from August 19-23 on PS4, and will be followed by a PC and Xbox One beta from August 26-30. You can get in by preordering and redeeming your code at the Call of Duty website. Starting at 12 AM PDT on the day the beta begins for your platform, emails will begin being sent out with a code that can be redeemed to download the beta.

Following the beta, the full version of Black Ops III lands on all three platforms, plus Xbox 360 and PS3, on November 6.
