Headfirst Productions has today announced that it's started work on Call of Cthulhu: Beyond the Mountains for the PC and Xbox. The game is the sequel to Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth , which itself won't be released until late next year.

"We are really excited about the long-term prospects for the Call of Cthulhu franchise," said Mike Woodroffe, managing director of Headfirst Productions. "Especially now that DreamWorks has announced its upcoming film based on the H.P. Lovecraft short story At the Mountains of Madness, which is to be directed by Guillermo del Toro of Blade 2 and Hellboy fame."

No specific gameplay details have been released, but we'll bring you more information on the game as it becomes available.
