Cabela's survival game adventuring this November

Activision announces Alaska-set third-person shooter Shadows of Katmai, coming to Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii this fall.

In June, Activision announced Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2012, the latest in the publisher's longstanding hunting series. However, that won't be the only Cabela's outdoors game players can pick up this fall. Activision has announced Cabela's Survival: Shadows of Katmai for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii.

Activision is pushing the Cabela's franchise to new territory this November.

The game casts players as Logan James, a bush pilot who survives a crash landing in Katmai National Park in Alaska. Gamers have only firearms and gear and must survive the frozen wilderness by fending off predators and battling the elements. Shadows of Katmai will be the first Cabela's game to be controlled through a third-person perspective.

Shadows of Katmai will ship for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii on November 1, 2011. It will be available as a stand-alone game and also with the Top Shot Elite gun peripheral. Pricing was not announced.

Maybe this is why Activision dropped True Crime: Hong Kong. Maybe this is their spin on 128 Hours minus James Franco.

Looks like a poor man's Uncharted, but could be interesting.

Call of Survival: Cabela's Adventure then? Like the concept though, but I'll just wait and see how it turns out; it's Activision after all, and they don't have any half-decent game apart from Call of Duty.

Looks like Tomb Raider in the wilderness. Not bought a TR for over 10yrs now and wont be bothering with this.

Really.... I love this concept. Being alone, out in the woods surrounded by beasts, trying your hardest not to win, but to survive. This could be such a cool game, but every year we get the same crapfest as the last. I hope someday a good developer will make one that's both a critical and commercial success.

This actually sounds pretty fun. I love survival horror/survival games in general so I'll have to keep my eye on this one.

After you survived a zombie out break or after you've survived dead space necromorphs. Killing some wolves and a bear is like having tea with grandma and her bingo friends...

So I take it the only boss character I have to look forward to fighting is a pissed off grizzly bear lol.........really, I don't think so folks. I am use to killing zombies, demons , vampires and ruthless killer's. Nope , surviving in the snow with Yogi bear and a few wolves would be a picnic at the beach to me lol.

The idea of surviving sounds cool but its an activision game so you know its going to suck.

This comes out the same day as LOTR: war in the north, and 10 days before skyrim, so not a buy for me but interestin premise

Well at least it's got a neat premise behind it.

I wish they'd come out with a good Cabela's game and turn it into a stronger franchise. Activision isn't going to help any with that though, they'll just continue to churn out junk to milk the brand and pillage this niche market. Here's hoping! :) Where's believing? :(

Going to be a mediocre 3rd person shooter, and then Activision will blame everything on poor reviews and piracy and shut down the studio. Sad thing is, that's actually possible.

Survival actually looks interesting, almost like the first real Cabela's game. The issue with Cabela's games have always been the poor controls. Platforming and third person view is something new for the franchise and I worry peripheral controls may have issues. Price point for these games is another biggy, I don't see paying more than $40 new.

The idea sounds good. I don't like the idea of the 3rd person for a cabella game though. Too used to FPS hunting games >.>
