Sound Source Interactive Inc., which develops and publishes licensed children's software products (perhaps most notably The Land Before Time Animated MovieBook), has acquired Berkeley, California-based game developer BWT Labs Inc.

Brett G. Durrett founded BWT Labs in 1992, and since that time, his company has developed titles for the PC and console markets, including (under the Halestorm and Asylum names) Windows and Macintosh versions of Allied General and Panzer General for Strategic Simulations Inc., the yet-to-be-released Internet game Rumble in the Void for VR-1, a Macintosh version of SimFarm for Maxis, the Super Game Boy versions of Madden Football '95 and '96, and Super Nintendo versions of PGA European Tour and PGA Tour '96 for THQ.

Durrett has been appointed vice president of product development for Sound Source's entertainment division.

"Internal product development is an essential element for success in the very competitive interactive software industry," said Vincent Bitetti, chairman and chief executive officer of Sound Source. "We are extremely pleased to have acquired a development team that has a history of producing commercially successful games."

As part of the BWT Labs acquisition package, Sound Source picked up BWT's proprietary game engines.
