Burnout Paradise bikes roll out September 18

Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 racer welcomes two-wheeled rockets, day/night cycles, and dynamic weather starting next Thursday.

Starting next week, Paradise City is going to look a lot more like Sturgis. Developer Criterion Games today announced that its next free update for Burnout Paradise on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is planned for release next Thursday, adding motorcycles to the game's distinctive formula of vehicular mayhem.

The appropriately titled Bikes Pack--formerly known as Davis--will include two motorcycles suitable for tooling around the city, along with the option of male or female riders. The bikes won't be the only new additions, as Criterion is also adding a motorcycle license progression, day-night cycles, changing weather, 70 new Freeburn challenges, and more.

Originally released in January, Burnout Paradise has been the recipient of a steady stream of free updates and upgrades from Criterion. The studio isn't done tweaking the game, either. Another update set for this fall will include an entirely new island for players to race around. Criterion developers have also blogged about adding big rigs and even planes to the Paradise City before they're done with the game.

Perhaps Criterion really is working on a new Road Rash game maybe that's why they are adding the bikes to see people's reactions.

should be interesting to see how this all comes together but it is definitely some exciting things in store for Burnout Paradise.....nice to know that all of this comes free of charge.....X-Box Live could learn a few things instead of forcing us to pay for every new update that comes along....if they can do it why can't all others do it?

Addition of bikes is cool, I wonder how hilarious decapitations or rather, "Take Down" and "Totalled" animations would appear... Probably the riders will break into halves... :-)

Now this is what being a developer really means: if we players invest money on their games, and enjoy them, we'd expect they improve our gaming experience by adding new stuff, FOR FREE!!! OK, there are developing costs involved in all this, but I think free updates give them the chance to prove new things and see how they work for next installments or even new games. Good for Criterion, I'll look forward to getting this update ASA it's available.

I'm glad to see a company that not only puts in the extra work for new content for their games, but gives it out free. Props to Criterion.

i've been annoyed at this, they said last week that it would come out on the 11th, diddnt happen, so since then i've been checking for updates often. Just a bit annoyed with the delay, rant over, should be good fun :)

only two bikes? didn't know that :( . oh well, at least it's free. that and the day-night and the weather effects are gonna be great. I wonder if they're still planning on opening up a new island in a future expansion. maybe we'll get more bikes then.

i dont think the sun will affect the shadow angles as it would take alot of memory processing... i would like breakable fences and other woodwork on next update but i can only wish...

ghaste
ghaste

Will the new day/night system have the sun actually move across the sky, or will there just be a day map and a night map? Also, will the day night cycle correspond to the real world, for example if it's night in the real world will it be night in the game? the day to night cycle is configurable... from 24 mins to 24 hours. There is a day map and night map... meaning that the challenges will change during night time from day time. The traffic volume will also change. cant wait...

I love free stuff. On the 18th it'll be time to breakout burnout again.

This game should be a model for all future games. Instead of making a watered down sequel that doesn't do too many tweaks, you get updates. They get their consumer excited and happy about their $60 purchase. Especially when it's free.
