Bungie trademarks "Become Legend"

Destiny developer files two trademark applications for slogan used in marketing material for upcoming online shooter.

Bungie has filed two trademark applications for "Become Legend," the slogan used in marketing material for the studio's new online shooter Destiny.

The applications were filed June 13 with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and cover computer game software and alternate reality and online games.

Bungie previously filed trademark applications for Glimmer, Fallen, Hive, Cabal, and Vex related to Destiny.

Destiny launches in 2014 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The developer recently acknowledged the lack of Destiny for PC is "painful" for gamers.

Game of Thrones and Elf actor Peter Dinklage voices Destiny's Ghost character, described as an "interactive companion."

After seeing Bungie's "gameplay release" I am not any more excited for the game as I was before. I love Bungie for the quality of the games they release, however the gameplay footage was vague and uninspired. Topping Halo is a tall order, but I have faith in Bungie that they are not in over their head.

guys saying it won't be on PC is like saying Bungie hates money !!!!

If the overall game's impression is that of a quasi-MMO Shooter experience, not having it for PC certainly hurts Bungie.

"online shooter"

hmmmm its as much online as borderlands. only difference is that Destiny requires a constand connection.

For some reason I think Destiny will be better on the PS4.

I'm glad Peter Dinklage is in the game.He plays my favorite character from Game of thrones.

@Tychobrahi no, they have Destiny on 4 platforms instead of one they have quadripled there previous work. The profit could be 4 times bigger than before. Obviously they don't give a fuck about PC at this stage.

I play both PC and console its a no brainer.

@PETERAKO I don't believe Borderlands actually had the description of "online shooter" or at least not compared to this game. Even on the stage demo, you are able to clearly see at least 7-9 online people at the last battle.
and how do you know is requires constant internet connection? That would suck.

@diabolik_023Relax, it will come to PC. Just like Ubisoft's The Division they gotta keep these games console exclusive right now to cajole PC gamers into buying one.

Notice how Bungie hasn't outright said no and Ubisoft is asking for PC gamers to petition/tweet for The Division. MGS5 is already heavily rumored to have a PC version on the way.

It's just marketing. Give it until the holiday season is over and I expect we will see confirmations.

@Shango4 other than the "Exclusive" content I almost guarantee the X1 and PS4 versions will be identical

@Banhammered1 Ohhh nooo extra additional optional content for a nominal fee!! LIFE HAS NO MEANING!!!

I never buy into that shit, and I always have plenty of fun. Is it so hard to simply say no?

@Mech-Gouki  Some of the demos shown at E3 are most likely running on X1/PS4 kits similar to PC to show off the game's quality. Not to mention there's a whole argument in there for using a higher GTX to spec up their game for demo purposes as opposed to what the systems will actually ship with.

It's criminal to ignore the more stable aspects of PC MMO gaming and focus their efforts on two new consoles where the risk margin is higher. Not to mention most games on PC look incredible, but I think you already knew that.

@lovelycat Ohh, I see what you mean. *winky face* We should "concentrate" on the PS4. Gotcha.

@CROAT_56 @Shango4 I'm sure most games will, at first, be improved greatly by the Xbox One's cloud usage.

Which makes it all the more aggravating that they are screwing up other aspects so terribly (and acting so damned arrogant about it).

Shango4
Shango4

@CROAT_56 @Shango4If a PS4 only Beta is at hand, you'll hear news of a short teenager running clumsily out of a Best Buy with a PS4 in one hand and a Destiny cardboard display in the other...

Shango4
Shango4

@CROAT_56 @Shango4I believe Bungie is pushing Destiny to the PS4 more than Xbox because PS gamers don't know just what Bungie is capable of. Xbox players have seen Bungie craft greatness and revolutionize gaming with Halo, and Playstation gamers have not. Bungie wants to succeed in both realms and believes a push to PS4 necessary.

However, Activision sees this openness to PS4 as a money-making venture and could possibly be exploiting Bungie's willingness to perform on the Playstation market in order to turn more revenue by generating exclusive content to ensure that Destiny will be well received on the Playstation.

Also, the projected 10-year arc of Destiny games and 10-year exclusive content agreement with PS4 alongside Bungie's involvement and openness to the Playstation realm seen to go hand in hand.

Bungie wants to show PS4 what it can do, and will push Destiny to Playstationers hard.

Activision wants to maximize revenue from Destiny and will exploit Bungie's desire to impress Playstationers and generate exclusive content for PS4 in order to increase their already infinite pocket size.

@Banhammered1 @Cl0ud Every Guardian gets a ghost. Ghosts are upgradable. Its not just a companion, but a tool and a weapon (i hope)

I think it would be awesome to be able to deploy the ghost at any time.

luckygrump
luckygrump

@Banhammered1 @Cl0ud It's not an MMO. Bungie has emphasized this several times. You won't be running around with hundreds of players. The game is instanced so you'll only run into other players, besides you firesquad, in certain areas. And there I don't think there'll even be that many players at the same time. And on these occasions I doubt Ghost will be present.

@malokevi @Banhammered1 Guild Wars 2 and Tribes Ascend had microtransactions and they pulled it off beautifully. I never had to buy anything in GW2 and I think I spend maybe 20 bucks in Tribes: Ascend for an XP booster/bundle. (It's free anyways, that game should be charging $60 a copy its so good)

@Slade968 @malokevi @r3v3nant_1 @CROAT_56 @Shango4

I wouldn't say "sneering"... they have been pretty honest about what they are doing with the consoles. Its PEOPLE who are having trouble coming to terms with it... for some reason.

Which is why its lovely that we all live in a free and open society, where we are allowed to choose what we buy based on our own value-equations.

@malokevi @r3v3nant_1 @CROAT_56 @Shango4

buy the xbox one if you want, that's fine but don't marginalize the issues. A lot of the questions are justified and all the Microsoft reps have yet to be on the same page. They put themselves in this disaster of a PR position themselves. Arrogant sneering to your customers questions/concerns? Never okay.

malokevi
malokevi

@r3v3nant_1 @CROAT_56 @Shango4 It would be hard not to be arrogant if you announced what you thought was a great product, and people started complaining about the technical requirements.

They must get asked the same retarded questions over and over and over. I'd start giving firm responses as well.

malokevi

@Shango4 @CROAT_56 I'm getting the new Xbox, and I don't see a problem. Destiny is coming to both consoles... playing it is all that matters to me.

Everyone will get to enjoy destiny in its full glory. Xbox, XboxOne, PS3, PS4... its all good.

I never buy DLC anyways. All these exclusive timed DLC deals tend to go right over my head. usually the retail version has more than enough content to keep me happy!

Shango4

@CROAT_56 @Shango4 With this deal with Sony. Sony has been know to get you to buy games for exclusive invites to Betas. This "partnership" could be very bad for xbox gamers

@Slade968 @malokevi @Banhammered1 @Cl0ud Lol alright. Seems like I can't say much of anything anywhere without somebody throwing "XBox sucks" in my face...

Slade968

@Banhammered1 @CROAT_56 @malokevi You say that like it destroys any value of the game. If it is done well then I am not worried. See my post below. I also forgot to mention Warframe, another game that handles microtransactions fairly.

@malokevi Yea, I've noticed he tends to spout ignorance on every forum.

malokevi

@CROAT_56 @malokevi @Banhammered1 Probably speculation. I have't heard anything about it either... except from people who are evidently not exited about the game.

So, the motives behind their cynicism are questionable!

Plus, I know from experience that "banhammer" is one of those people who likes to complain endlessly about things he has no experience with.

pvspartan36
pvspartan36

@Banhammered1 @Flubbbs Having read that forum thread a while ago, I can tell you that that means nothing. They could put whatever they want in their terms and conditions just to cover all bases even if they don't have microtransactions. Something similar being mentioned in the T&C means absolutely nothing at this time.
