Bungie not attending E3 2011

Developer behind Halo series, new IP for Activision will not be "officially" at next month's trade show in Los Angeles.

It appears gamers hoping to learn what Bungie's first product in its 10-year publishing deal with Activision is won't get the news at the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo next month.

Bungie won't be at E3 next month.

According to the most recent Bungie Weekly Update, the Washington state studio will not attend next month's geek gala.

"We won't officially be at E3 this year," reads the statement. "We wanted to make sure you didn't get whipped into a rumor-fueled frenzy only to have your expectations unceremoniously dashed during expo week."

As for what is known about Bungie's first game with Activision, the game will run on an entirely new engine, will be set in an all-new universe, and will be offered on multiple platforms. However, at GDC Online 2010, Bungie writer and designer Joseph Staten did tease the studio's upcoming project.

"I think it's a shame that we spent so much time working on this world called Halo and then we only let people spend six or eight or 10 hours in it," Staten said. "Wouldn't it be great if we could make a world that was always there for you, with lots of stories to tell, like a big, infinite storytelling horizon? Man, that would be great."

-DaNuTz- no more Halo games, thanks God ************************************************************** Sorry to dash your dreams, but Microsoft will still be making Halo games and will most likely show something at the E3. There are rumors that no less then 2 Halo games will be released next year. Sounds to me like Bungie will be making some kind of FPS MMO in the future. That would be cool for me. Halo was awesome. Don't be surprised if they show something at the E3. Is seems there are a LOT of companies who say they are attending the E3, and that may be true, but don't be surprised if they announce things on their websites or shooting surprise press announcements to the gaming sites. You don't have to be at the E3 to make official announcements to the press. Expect a few surprises from some of these companies, especially Valve.

I can't pretend to care about Bungie. They milked the crap out of Halo and I don't see the talent there anymore. They have to milk the Bungie name, now.

with the shackels of oprestion broken bungie are ready to step away from halo and microsoft, there big idea (or more) of a mmofps seems good but big and with bulk (hard work to make an mmorpg but a perfect mmofps will take all the skill of the developers) comes less speed there will be somthing next year but its early days for this production.

I hope they will at least release a trailer or something. I was never a Halo fan, but I'm quite interested in seeing what they are working on.

Missed opportunity - especially after such a teaser: "...Wouldn't it be great if we could make a world that was always there for you, with lots of stories to tell, like a big, infinite storytelling horizon?..." I personally couldn't get into the series until the second half of Halo 3. Since then, it's maintained my interest. With all the crazy #$%^ going on in Wacktivision, I hope this project pans out to be as big as they're hinting above.

COOL. Does that mean there will be one less generic shooter on the market?

the Halo games didnt really entertain me that much. but to each their own. I'm not judging. It does sound like Bungie is just gearing up to announce a Halo MMO. then again I could be completely wrong. but that is what I got from this article

That doesn't surprise me. Bungie are probably working on something big, and will want to keep it under wraps for quite a while.

Bad move for Bungie. I hope they don't try to do some self announcement right before fall.

@ExFros77 lol. You couldn't be more correct! Activision destroys all! I'm crossing my fingers that 343 Studios can revive the GOOD Halo formula that we saw in H2, and a little bit in H3.

at least this is smarter than IGNs posting on this issue, they live in the year 2008 when Bungie was still owned by Microsoft

@Jamesoo715, they are actually missing it because they just don't have anythign to show this year.Halo reach has been out a while and has pretty much been covered in depth by media so far.I would assume they are now putting more work into their new mmo based on the halo universe , which i suspect their still fresh in the development phase to give us any solid juicy bits.

This is great news, these are the tools responsible for the biggest slice of over rated rubber bogs*** in video game history. At least we know were safe for the immediate future from anymore steaming heaps of scat! "Halo, helping paint dry since 2001"

Not surprising since Blizzard, another Activision developer also doesn't attend E3 anymore. E3 is not essential these days with everyone getting most of their information online.

I'm only half interested to see what they're doing. They can take their time for all I care. Bungie's work has just been one crushing disappointment after the next since Halo 2.

Travis, just ugh! Anywho, Bungie's next game should be great, as were most of the Halo games. I feel that Bungie fell short with Halo: Reach's campaign but, in any event, Bungie is still a great developer so I'm sure they won't dissapoint.

ExtremePhobia

@GodGundamNT1 True. I mean it's not like Bungie has ever made any other successful games. I mean Marathon and Myth are really just trash (and why they left the FPS genre for Myth I'll never know). Oh, wait. Marathon and Myth were pretty well liked and Myth was an RTS. Clearly Bungie's track record shows that they are going to fail with this (however joining with Activision isn't a good sign). Negative guy, aren't you?

MJ12-Conspiracy

I'm sure what Bungie is working on is amazing blah, blah, blah. I simply won't buy from Activision no matter who the developer is, not anymore.

I don't play shooters, but I'm sure the players rreeaaaally apreciate this news about not being in the E3. It really sucks when companies (like Atari and Eden Studios for Test Drive Unlimited 2) receive you with nothing but a lazy trailer of things you had already seen months ago.

GodGundamNT1
GodGundamNT1

Wow just wow, a Bungie news article talking about a made for Activision IP but it has a video about Halo REach for your butt. No one cares, unless Bungie makes another Halo the game WILL SUCK, if its an MMORPG its going to suck, I bet you your sweet virgin butt that Bungie is making a Call of Duty set in the future for Activision and that my friends is the only way in hell the game is going to sell.

Whatever it is...I'm interested in what it is. ESPECIALLY if they jump into a new genre...that's always a good way to tell a company's creativity...test them in something they aren't familiar with. One can hope.

Sounds like an MMO, meh. I think their best days are behind them. Think about it, if you were hyping your product wouldn't you want to show it at the biggest event of the year? They don't have anything worth showing to show. How long have they been working on this now? Should have something showable now. Next.

ValleyofDoom
ValleyofDoom

@kvan33, look up Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, Myth and Oni. It saddens me that they won't be showing anything. And it frightens me that Joseph Staten is suggesting a Mass Effect like game world in his comment about what would be great. I simply hope they'll make another compelling universe, without the RPG elements.

Hopefully there not thinking Halo with a big world to run around it. That would be lame. Especially if there wasn't any lvling or inventory/loot gathering. I think Bungie has alot to prove, especially if there deviating from there arcade shooter norm.

kvan33

Bungie really hasn't to proved to me that they can make any blockbusters outside of the Halo universe. I'm very curious to see what they have up their sleeve.
