Bungie: Destiny will have "very long" life cycle

Community manager David "DeeJ" Dague says the studio's ambition for the game is to create a world that can be visited over and over again.

Bungie's first post-Halo project--the shared-world shooter Destiny--has been designed with replayability in mind and will have a "very long" life cycle, according to the developer.

"Given the different ways of playing Destiny, and given the fact that the game is completely dynamic and will be different every time you experience it with other people, the amount of time that we’ll be relevant to the gamers who decide to play it is something that we think will be a very long life-cycle," Bungie community manager David "DeeJ" Dague told the PlayStation Blog.

"The idea is to create a world that you can visit over and over again," he added.

Destiny is Bungie's first game with Activision from its ten-year exclusive publishing deal with the Call of Duty company. Three additional titles in the series are rumored to be in development for release every second year after Destiny's debut in 2014. For the years in between, downloadable content is believed to be in the pipeline.

Destiny launches in 2014 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Bungie COO Pete Parsons recently said that the game has the potential to surpass the impact of Halo and sit on people's shelves next to franchises like Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings.

Ok you have two different types of players gunning for this game with luck the developers are reading blogs and. Taking notes this could be a great game shooter mmorpg ish or it can turn into just another shooter to me define the classes a bit more for they have a role and a use in groups mix free dl content with played larger exspantions and if you bring out a new title you better let players. Move their charicters over not just give them a new game to start from scratch with that to me will kill the game

""The idea is to create a world that you can visit over and over again," he added."

They seemed to miss the mark (on release, at least), with making lots of people WANT to revisit.  I'll probably give it a shot anyway.

This is actually my most anticipated shooter for next year...With all the hype around Titanfall, this game seems to be getting buried. But Titanfall seems to be the type of game that will have far less replay value (at least until they reveal more about unlockables and new content).

Yes - I guess it will have to ... since its online only, which means when they are done supporting it - it will just disappear from your "collection"  - hopefully it will have a long run.

It's another First Person Shooter. Bravo! Is that going to change every time I enter the game?

Good news! The people making the game say's it's the best game ever going to be made, ever! Great. When you're done sucking your asses, get real people to comment on the game.

They said once they didn't want to make a MMORPG, but I actually kind of hope they throw some of those elements in. Something like:

You walk around doing missions and suddenly you're ambushed and pushed into a corner by an overpowered enemy patrol. At the same time you say "oh f*ck" suddenly a rocket blasts half of them to smithereens and you look to another player who just dropped in, you fight what's left of the patrol together and totally pwn them like a badass.

THAT is the moment you want to say, hey let's go celebrate at my clan's/guild's/crew's hub. A hub would be like a place where you encounter people of your group, your friends or something. Like your favorite bar. I like bars.

I hate sequels. The last time I got tricked into buying a sequel was madden '06. They didn't even have the decency to change the maps. I refuse to be milked for supposedly "better gameplay," "better graphics," "more realism," "new features," or whatever else they claim to be selling. football is football, why upgrade?

I do hope that Destiny does indeed have a long life span as a series. That it does remain replayable. Bungie can do it and get the 8th gen of to a great start

Hey guys. Typical gamer here. Believe it when I see it. Stop being excited for your own game. Gonna milk it. It's totally generic. Been there, seen that. So on and so forth.

Oh and let's not forget. PC OR GTFO.

It should surpass Halo because Halo sucked to me!

If it isn't much better than Defiance it won't have a very long life cycle.

Can't imagine it will last TOO long. If I remember correctly, the contract was slated for 2-3 games and 2-3 major DLC per game over the course of a 10-year period. Wonder if that's changed at all since the information leaked and the lawsuit was engaged...

I just hope this doesn't turn out like dust 514. That game is terrible. A decent idea, but terrible execution.

We'll see, just telling people it's going to have a long life before the game is even out doesn't make it true

@flameon12346 Well, you'd hardly expect PC fans to want the game to come out on, say, Dreamcast.

Is the master race mad cause bungie is giving your platform the middle finger, maybe it should be the "master race" GTFO and stop crying in their cereal already.

@LucentWolf Why not they are no different that what Rockstar is about their game as well as most of us I might add, from what I have seen of this game it looks good as does GTA5.

@thread-of-red i think it is called "planning" and "selling games." Would we care about a game that they came out and said, "hey we made this game, it'll be...meh, I don't know. maybe we will do a sequel if we get around to it."

@brokenduck2 funny how two people can have very different opinions.

So far, I'm not liking this game one bit.  Looks bland, generic, and nowhere special at all.

@IanNottinghamX @Bigjoe1627 halo 1, 2, 3 were great... the rest started to suck.... reach was more or less but halo 4.... dont get me started. the lack of content that shit has... 70€ wasted

thread-of-red

@jeffcliff @thread-of-red I think your being what's referred to as an "ass". To be fair this recent outing is justifiable, but last week that  said that people should compare Destiny to Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, that's for other people to decide, not themselves. Don't get me wrong, I love their games and will be getting Destiny for sure, but I think there success has made them a bit egotistical.

brokenduck2
brokenduck2

@fredyellowone @brokenduck2  I actually look forward to lots of other games like titanfall, witcher 3 , bf4, mgs 5 (pc version possible) etc but I'm getting all of them on pc and destiny got no pc version
