Bungie Aerospace reveal coming soon

Halo creator promises to offer "explicit detail" about corporation that trademarked "Crimson" as part of studio's 20th anniversary.

Bungie has been tight-lipped about its 10-year collaboration with Activision, but teases have been in abundant supply. One bit of gristle gamers have been given to chew is the name Bungie Aerospace, a corporation set up by Bungie president Harold Ryan that trademarked the name "Crimson" with the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Now, one more tease has been added to the mix. In an update to its official website today, Bungie said that it would be pulling back the curtain on Bungie Aerospace, "in explicit detail," as part of its 20th anniversary celebration. Bungie did not provide a specific date for when the reveal would come, saying only that the festivities will commence on June 23 and run through Bungie Day on July 7.

It remains to be seen where Destiny factors into this equation.

Whether or not Bungie Aerospace has any bearing on Bungie's new project remains to be seen, as little is known about that project. The Washington-based studio has previously said that the game is in development for an all-new game engine for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Bungie has also indicated that it will be of the massively multiplayer sort, issuing a call for "hundreds of thousands" of beta testers last November.

Of course, Bungie has given gamers a number of trails to follow. Last month, the studio was linked to a dummy corporation, called Podophobia Entertainment, which had trademarked the name "Destiny." A triangular symbol (pictured) was also attached to this filing.

My hope: Halo bangs WoW and this is their love-child. Maybe almost Mass Effect-ish but bigger and with everyone online running around the universe in their own ships!

Yeah, the good thing about Halo is that it always stays fresh, and no matter what, it is definitely an original FPS, unlike CoD or something along those lines, and I gotta feeling Bungie is also gonna make another original FPS that will turn out great. Although i'm much more excited for Halo Anniversary and Halo 4, I'll still be checking up on updates on this game.

@smsmsmoosavi I know this already have since the announcement of Halo 4, but that has nothing to do with what I was stating. @PixelAddict Finally... I have been wondering the same thing.

If they're making an FPS it better have something original, I'm sick and tired of these modern FPS:s that all look, sound and play the same.

hopefully its some hybrid mixture between halo 4 and mw3

I guess if it's an mmo, it could be a good back up if The Old Republic flops. I love Bungie, hope they really wow us.

Bungie community manager Brian Jarrard on this partnership with Activision: "We pretty much talked to every prospective publisher out there. There's only a handful of publishers who could operate on the magnitude of what we're envisioning for our next project and a deal of this scope, with this unprecedented 10-year range. We got through the discussions and started focusing on things that were really important to us, [like] making sure Bungie still owned the IP. We still wanted to be an independent company and weren't looking to be absorbed or sell an ownership stake in the studio. [We wanted to make] sure we had creative control over our projects and our vision for this universe, and [tried] to find a partner that could bring us the largest possible audience across multiple platforms and devices. At the end of the day, Activision was the one partner where all these factors would align for us." So for those who think Activision owns Bungie, that's not the case. Bungie sold the rights to publish this new IP that Bungie still owns 100%. My guess is it was a publishing bidding war between EA, Ubisoft, and Activision. Those are the Big 3, right?

Why do people think Bungie is owned by Activisiion? Setting things straight: Bungie owns THEMSELVES. They made a deal with Activision ALLOWING Activision publishing rights to release their game(s) for the next 10-years. The freedom Bungie received from Microsoft can only be good for Bungie, as they are now free to make whatever game they want, for whatever platform, and make whatever profits they can.

@jollybest1 Activision DOES NOT own Bungie!!! Microsoft bought Bungie for the Halo franchise, but they came to terms and Microsoft released Bungie. They are their own company and NOT owned by anyone one company. It's like Marvel having movie studios produce comic book movies. Marvel doesn't own Universal but they have signed a deal...

as for activision owning bungie , thats bogus they are partners one publishes the game (Activision) one develops the game (Bungie) ...think at bungie and microsoft (halo series)

@okassar Vivendi owns activision and blizzard which merged , blizzard and activision are partners , Vivendi is Blizzard's parent company so NO BLIZZARD is the same blizzard , they are doing their jobs as before

If this really ends up being another FPS (MMO or not), I'm gonna be disappointed.

Honestly, I like the idea of Bungie doing some kind of MMO FPS, they make great FPS gameplay and their online services have always also been great. But I just can't handle monthly subscription fees.

Why Bungie?! Why?!, why did have to team up with activision?, but anyways, i hope its an awesome fps.

Well I feel it's too late for me to join WoW and I couldn't find a comparable MMO so this better be good. Wait......Activision owns Blizzard, so if this project is successful they'll have that and WoW. Absolutely insane. As long as the game is good whatever. I trust Bungie.

Make a new fps series now that microsoft is gonna kill halo. Best "working title" i've ever seen though.

FPS + any sort RPG elements = awesomeness. Most FPS's have some kind of subtle leveling or reward/unlock system implemented, but NOW IMAGINE WHEN THEY'RE MAJOR FOCUS IS COMBINING THOSE TWO GENRES! And the massive, over-sized cherry on top? BUNGIE IS DEVELOPING IT!!!

@0ld_sch00l: Activison does not own Bungie. They are their own separate company. They are in a deal, they cannot close them. @Granpire: You should try it out, Bungie is one of the companies that create a unique experience with their universes. Halo is a great universe that they created. Don't be like a lot of people and start playing Halo 2 first.

I've never had an Xbox, so I've sort of missed out on all the Halo excitement. That said, I've always admired Bungie. From what little I know of Halo and their older MacOS games, they seem to create deep and fascinating worlds that immerse the player. I've never been a part of those worlds, but I'm looking forward to finally being able to try a Bungie game.

0ld_sch00l

I am already skeptical of it because of the console MMO part.*

So, let's see, fps, online, scifi, maybe some kinda subscription. I hope that's all true, minus the part about the subscription. This is my best guess.

I thought there new game was going to be a fps or did i just pull tht from the air...well a massive multiplayer fps would be intresting or i wonder if it will just go with the traditional wow type massive multiplayer thing...that would be lame

Frosty192

@janrabbit I agree with you 100%. If they take 15% of their advertising budget and spend it on the game then I am sure it will be a better product. DLC has also made games not worth the 60$ price tag. (Mostly referring to ON DISK DLC which should be illegal)

Ergh game developers have got so dramatic when it comes to announcing new games "the studio was linked to a dummy corporation" i mean WTF, if you put this much effort into making games instead of trying to over hype everything so everybody is either disappointed or just get what they expected, then heck the quality of video games would be on another level.
