Chicago-based Bungie Software has announced that Peter Tamte, Apple Computer's senior director of consumer marketing will be joining Bungie as executive vice president of publishing. Tamte is no newbie to the games industry. Prior to working for Apple, he helped found Macintosh game publisher, MacSoft. Before MacSoft, Tamte held the position of director of sales and marketing for GT Interactive's WizardWorks.

"The Internet is creating tremendous opportunities in entertainment that most traditional publishers are not ready for. Bungie is in a unique position to help drive this change through its three internal development studios and through leveraging its successful multiplayer gaming site, bungie.net, in innovative ways," Tamte said in a release issued by Bungie. "Most of all, as one of the only publishers intimately involved in game development, Bungie is in a much better position to work with third-party developers to deliver the most compelling content possible."

He will focus on building Bungie into a premier publisher of both internally and externally developed games.
