Bug Found in New Coppermines

Intel admits to a glitch in its new line of Pentium III processors.

Comments

ZDNet is reporting that a newly discovered glitch in Intel's high-end Pentium III processors has caused systems integrator Dell to stop shipments of its GX110 desktop computer. The bug causes the processor to occasionally freeze during the computer's boot-up and shut-down sequences.

"We've implemented a stop ship, which is a due diligence move to screen for the erratum," said Dell spokesman Ken Bissell. The affected Coppermine processors have been shipping to OEM systems integrators like Dell and Gateway since late October. Other vendors have yet to comment on the status of their Pentium III-equipped computer shipments.
