Broncos linebacker relaxes with Pokemon before the Super Bowl

Denver Broncos linebacker Nate Irving unwinds with Pokemon instead of wild parties.

by

As some players from the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos are tearing up New York City in their downtime before Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off tomorrow, one Broncos linebacker is relaxing alone in his hotel room with a nice game of Pokemon.

"I'm actually going to sit in my hotel room, play my Pokemon game," Denver Broncos linebacker Nate Irving told the Wall Street Journal when asked about his plans leading up to the big game.

Apparently, his teammates think that it's a little funny, and tease him when they catch him playing. "I try to hide it from them," Irving said, "like bend over in the seat, like I'm asleep, or play with my head down."

But Irving doesn't care that much. "I know not too many people are into the things I'm into," he said. "I just embrace that and I enjoy it."

Irving also said that he likes to play a lot of Call of Duty on his days off. He did not specify which version of Pokemon he plays.

Cool story bro. I'm still playing it myself. Just play whatever you like and don't give a damn what others think

I wonder who has better defense, his Pokemon team or his football team?

Nevermind, I think I already know the answer.

Pretty cool; Pokemon def. isn't a game for just little kids.

Even with the masterball, he was not able to capture victory in the Super Bowl.

Should of spent more time watching tape and practicing. Since the Broncos didn't even show up to play.

With the score of the game, appears he relaxed too much.

I don't follow sports much, but I'm probably the biggest Polkamon fan. Frank Wojnarowski, I choose you!

Good luck to both teams with their baseball game. I hope they both win all the points!

1st play of the superbowl, broncos snap the ball past Manning into the inzone for Seattle to get a safety. Guess they all should have played pokemon

Good for him. I remember last week or so one of the GOAT qbs was saying how the best way to be ready for the super bowl is to treat like a home game and be as comfortable as possible and not party. Iirc it was John elway.

Catch 'em all and don't hide it!

So this means we gamers are no longer losers and nerds? Hurray!

Also, "I try to hide it from them(his teammates)", then talks about his habit to the whole world... lol

Unwind with wild parties? WTF? Just what? Gamespot at it's best, again.

Awwww! COD eh? Must be pretty interesting to be a celebrity playing MP with totally oblivious gamers! They're LUCKY & they don't know it. Wonder if any, sports fanatic recognized his voice...and as always, it's cool to know not all guys are arrogant, pervs & I love that cute boyish smile too! Never cared to watch a full football game before, but if I watch it, I'll root for the Denver Broncos now! hahaha!  : ))

I don't give a damn about football, but now I want the broncos to win.

The last ones I played were red and blue on my gameboy color. Were those the first? I don't know. I remember making all of my friends mad because I would kill their whole team with just my Venusaur. I put them to sleep and solar beamed them to death or something. It was fun, now I kind of miss pokemon.

Probably Pokemon Y, and it's definitely funner than partying

Is "relaxes with Pokemon" a euphemism for masturbation?? re-read the article with that in mind and its hilarious!

I grew up on the original pokemon show when I was a kid. Used to collect the cards and everything. I also like playing the pokemon games but I stopped watching the show, sadly that second released version of pokemon with all the new 150 pokemon seemed odd to me and I just couldn't get into it, didn't understand why they made all new pokemons in the show so I just stopped watching it after that lol. Tried watching it years later but at that time I had grown way out of the show, the games are still great though.

Don't be embarrassed to play Pokemon, embrace it. Let people know that you don't conform to the American standard. I wish more people would do what they like instead of going with the crowd.

@johnd13 lol gaming became huge back around 2007/2008, it really isn't considered a nerd thing anymore.

You have gone to school right? That's pretty much how most football players unwind.

Real champions play consoles that actually have games.

@Shelledfade1  The show is trash. The games are amazing though. Except the last generation. X and Y were a bit disappointing due to the lack of post-game content.

@fester420  Pokemon is actually very popular with 'the crowd'. It's a game that many, many young adults played during their childhood and as such is quite popular with the late teens-20's crowd, whether they're gamers or not.

tightwad34
tightwad34

@fester420 I do too, but there are way too many morons and sheep for that to ever happen. Bieber is the best example at the moment, and it's not his fault people(teenage girls for him) are seriously stupid. Texting while driving will forever prove the point.

tom2750
tom2750

@fester420  or maybe they do and you just cant accept people for who they are because they are different then you so you brush it off as "going with the crowd" when most people that go out clubbing and partying and getting drunk all the time or something else do it because they highly enjoy doing it

tom2750

@RicanV  nothing wrong with call of duty they are great games and number 4 is possibly the best military FPS game ever made they don't change much each new game but that doesn't change the fact that they were great from the very start so them not changing much keeps it the fast paced very fun game it is today there is a reason they sell so well because they are very fun

@Trev9421  second that motion with the pass manning threw right to Seattle in the first quarter.

@Trev9421  The method you presented your argument makes it valid. Although the first play of the superbowl favors my comment LOL.

@chrisda I know a lot of athletes in general play games, but most of them are Madden or COD so it's nice to see one playing something completely different from that. And I was referring to the fact that wild parties don't help one unwind, they do the opposite from my experiences.

I personally thought X and Y was one of the best in a while overall, but the Post - Game was disappointing.

Eh, no post-game content is a given for pokemon. They  always "fix" it in the third installments.

@tom2750 @RicanV  I respect your opinion and I will say overall that franchise has been great and it has a deep impact on the FPS genre.

I will however say that not changing much isn't a bad thing. But they have changed the game over the years with declining quality. They became too comfortable. The latest CoD suffers from a targeting system and spawning system that make the game unplayable.

While, Cod 4 was a great game, I am pretty sure one of the Counter-Strike, Battlefield, or Tom Clancy games are more deserving of that title.

@Trev9421  I'm not either I just like the commercials LMAO. I was a Dallas fan in the 90's when they were all on coke going back to back superbowls. Now they are known as a cheerleading squad.

I have honestly never watched the Super Bowl in my life lol. I didn't even know it was the weekend until yesterday. I'm not a fan of football.
