THQ announced this morning that its licensed dancing game Britney's Dance Beat has shipped to retail and should now be available nationwide.

The game casts you as a potential backup dancer for Britney Spears, and you must audition for her by dancing to five of her songs while besting an opposing dancer. The game includes five Britney Spears songs in both shorter edits and full album version form: "Overprotected," "I'm a Slave 4 U," "Oops! I Did it Again," "Stronger," and the quintessential Britney hit "...Baby One More Time."

The game supports both regular controllers and Dance Dance Revolution-compliant dance mats, and the gameplay falls somewhere between Konami's DDR and Enix's Bust A Groove series, mixing dancing with competitive combatlike elements. The game also features backstage footage of Britney's recent tour.

A PC version of the game is scheduled to follow in June. THQ's license to create Britney Spears products is good through 2005.
