Brink falls into stores May 17

Splash Damage's class-based, parkour-inspired first-person shooter gets dated; European launch set for May 20.

Bethesda is rapidly approaching the Brink, as the publisher today confirmed that the Splash Damage-developed first-person shooter will debut in North America May 17. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC game's European launch is set for May 20.

Brink places an emphasis on character customization.

Brink takes place in the year 2035 in a floating city called The Ark following the Earth's near-total destruction. Two warring factions, the Security and the Resistance, are going head-to-head for control of the city. After choosing sides in the fight, players will have to pick from a variety of classes (engineer, medic, and so on) and complete specific mission objectives related to those roles. The game will also place an emphasis on parkour-style movement through its dynamically changing maps, as well as character customization options.

Originally a Quake III mod team, Splash Damage gained notoriety with the 2003 release of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. The multiplayer expansion to Return to Castle Wolfenstein focused on class-based and mission-based action, themes the developer would continue to explore with 2007's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, as well as Brink.

acutally there have been only 2 or 3 articled release date bumps i am pretty sure it was bump from last fall to January first then to early February, then last week on the 27th was the final set date. notice how all their trailers from last fall and so on says (R)evolution starts spring 2011 or something like that. until last week sites have been slapping down their own release dates. i am just happy it is finally coming soon! everyone keep busy so the days go 'faster' and (R)evolution starts sooner!!!!

we'll see that, the fact they didn't play any old Duke game doesn't mean they will snob the new one, 2K will start a massive marketing campaign soon

@ s4dn3s5 No launching near L.A noire is the games biggest threat not duke nukem forever. Duke nukem forever, while it may be appealing to a dedicated gamers nostalgia, has virtually no appeal to the casual or younger gamer audiences.

I want this one to be Good, after trying the Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm demo i don't know if the good looking game of 2011 will really be that good. Crysis 2 MP is a big joke, might be better on PC, will see. Still have Rage on the list of good pc game for this year. @fLaMbOaStiN Valve games should be played on PC.

OMFG!!! I'm so excited for this game!! The beginning of 2011 has already been amazing with Dead Space 2 and LBP 2 already out. February sees Killzone 3, Bulletstorm, and MvC3; March sees Crysis 2 and Dragon Age 2, April even more, and May sees Brink and Duke Nukem! I don't have enough time in the day to play all these, even with a month break in between....guess I'll have to quit my job.

@mattg90520 - Brink does have a sp component. I can't remember if it's an actual campaign, or just a series of missions/levels. I know that playing sp still gives xp for unlocks, which carry over to mp. I think they even said something about the game asking if you want to join a mp match, if it finds a good connection on a mission you are already playing. Really happy that the release date is so close, relatively speaking. Can't wait for this game to come out!

I've been waiting for this game for a long time.. Reminds me of TF2.. I loved TF2 on the Orange Box for the 360 and played it RELIGIOUSLY when it first released.. But after a month the online dryed up, i couldnt understand why! It was a game that has so much success and has been around so long on the p/c but you couldnt find a single online game for it on the xbox 360 only 2months after it released.. Oh well, i'am gonna risk it and purchase brink for the 360 anyways and hope that its online lasts longer then TF2's did.

I have been out of the online multiplayer scene (for lack of a better word) for some time. I have high hopes for this game to change that.
