Brink dev reveals new PC shooter

Splash Damage working on Dirty Bomb with help from publishing partner Warchest; teaser trailer released; release date TBA.

by

The next project from Brink and Enemy Territory: Quake Wars developer Splash Damage has been revealed. This morning, the company announced PC shooter Dirty Bomb. The game's teaser trailer suggests the game will be set in a modern day London, England and feature lots of shooting.

The Dirty Bomb website encourages gamers to reserve a player name by registering at publishing partner Warchest's website. Additionally, Dirty Bomb's online services are powered by FireTeam, a company that specializes in matchmaking, transmedia connectivity, and more.

No release date or pricing information was announced for Dirty Bomb.

Dirty Bomb is the first game from London-based Splash Damage since 2011's Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC game Brink, which sold 2.5 million copies. For more on that game, check out GameSpot's review.

I really, REALLY hope things get done right this time. Brink had an incredible amount of potential that was squandered for essentially no reason.

Brink was really bad compared to its hype ... oh this is gonna revolutionize FPS .... no.... no it did not ....

I said I had sworn off Splash after the massive disaster that Brink was... but having looked into their new websites (Fireteam and Warchest), I have to say I'm interested again.

Now is the time for them to prove that all the previous failures to support their games post release (ie ETQW and Brink) were a result of publisher complications.  Now that it's all on them, I want to see them do it properly.

Just as well they're trying to institute their version of F2P because even though I like the look of the new direction, I'm not swayed enough yet to contemplate giving them any of my money.... yet.

When they can deliver something on par with the good ole days of Wolf ET, then the bad taste of having preordered Brink only to see it drop to bargain bin sale prices 2 months later on Steam... then and only then will the bad taste be washed out completely.

I liked Brink, i'm not sure why considering how much people disliked it.  Maybe this time the Brink idea will be used properly for all to enjoy.

Have they learned from Brinks failings? We'll wait and see.

"Dirty Bomb" by Splash Damage?

Do they not think about what images are conjured up?

With a name like that, I can't help but laugh. And considering how boring and bland Brink was, it's hard to get excited for this.

Why announce a game with no reason to get excited about?

Oh this just smell as a MP focused shooter. I'm so steering clear of this.

Wow, this sounds terribly original. Didn't they learn to stop making games after Brink?

Looking at the graphics seen in the trailer and some animation it reminds of free to play games.

It doesn't say if it's 3rd or 1st person, I'd love if it was a 3rd person shooter, not enough of them around anymore because it's mostly 1st person. I'd love if it was similar to the Getaway.

Another generic modern shooter, surprise surprise.

Brink was awesome. It was a definite change compared to all this newer CoD multiplayer rehashs I see everywhere. People should at least give it an hour of playing before giving it the axe.

Yay, just what the gaming industry needs: another military shooter.

I tought the guy on the picture  is Strelock, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 was going to be back in development. Then i read the headline and the article and now i know, this will be another classbased multyplayer FPS, that will die withing a month after its release.

Risky. PC gamers are so inundated with different shooters of all sorts, with some on the leading edge of innovative gameplay, that any generic shooter not in a major franchise will have little chance of receiving any attention, let alone succeed. Not to say Dirty Bomb will be a generic shooter, but a lot of shooting will no doubt be insufficient.

The name Dirty Bomb sounds like a fart. I cannot take this title seriously.

@Jarten I played it back in 2007, but it was Called Team Fortress 2 back then, for some reason I liked it a lot more then than I do now.

@vasilakis141 damn why did S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 had to die damn shame they should of at lest remastered wolfenstein  enemy territory in HD.

@shantyshocker  @OleanderX they announced awhile ago that they'd be ditching retail and doing F2P marketing.. we'll see if they can pull it off properly, at least like Tribes.

shantyshocker
shantyshocker

@eriktkire  @OleanderX Well at least they are keeping it safe just to avoid another mess in their hands but if its a very awful F2P system like doing Pay 2 Win or over price packages now that's gonna build some problems

just like the their Ipad game too

Alot has change because of that one game haha even the European reviewers defended it!

anyway best of luck to them
