Brilliant Sword-Dueling Game Nidhogg Gets a Sequel With a Much Different Look
More Nidhogg is on the way in 2017.
Nidhogg was a surprise hit when it launched in 2014, and now it's getting a sequel.
Nidhogg 2 is officially in development by Mark "Messhof" Essen, it was announced today. It's still a side-scrolling game where you duel another player (or the computer), but this time it features a delightfully gross new art style, as well as new weapons and levels. The teaser trailer shows off the new look, which stands in stark contrast to the minimalist graphics of its predecessor.
According to today's announcement, Nidhogg 2 features "completely overhauled" environments and animations, more than 10 levels, and a new soundtrack (with music from Dose One, Daedelus, and Mux Mool). There's also support for local and online multiplayer (along with a tournament mode), plus a single-player mode where you compete with the AI and face "occasional special challenge rounds."
Other new features will be discussed soon. For now, the game will be demoed at the upcoming TwitchCon ahead of its full release on PC in 2017. The announcement also teases Nidhogg 2 will also release for "some other platforms" 2017. The original made it to PS4 and Vita after debuting on PC.
