Boston, Rush, The Who headline Rock Band Classic Rock

MTV Games and Harmonix prepping 20-song stand-alone track pack of previously released DLC for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii on May 19.

by

With its so-called all-new The Beatles: Rock Band due this September, Harmonix has said it does not plan to bring a proper sequel to its flagship rhythm game Rock Band to market this year. That doesn't mean that the studio won't be lining retailers' shelves with a new Rock Band-branded product, however. Today, MTV Games, EA, and Harmonix announced that Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock will arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, and Wii on May 19.

Here's how it was done in the '70s.

The Classic Rock track pack contains 20 retro tunes previously released as weekly downloadable content. Highlights from the $29.99 stand-alone product include Boston's "Peace of Mind," Rush's "Closer to the Heart," Steve Miller Band's "The Joker," and The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes."

According to MTV Games, Classic Rock track pack tunes can be downloaded to users' Xbox 360 or PS3 hard drives so that they can be played through Rock Band's or Rock Band 2's interface. However, unlike similar functionality for transferring nonmetal Rock Band songs to Rock Band 2, the process will be free of charge.

The full lineup of Rock Band Track Pack: Classic Rock tunes is listed below.

Boston - "Peace of Mind"
Boston - "Rock and Roll Band"
Dead Kennedys - "California Uber Alles"
Dead Kennedys - "Holiday in Cambodia"
Free "All Right Now"
George Thorogood & the Destroyers - "Bad to the Bone"
James Gang - "Funk #49"
Jethro Tull - "Hymn 43"
Lenny Kravitz - "Let Love Rule"
Pat Benatar - "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"
The Police - "Can't Stand Losing You"
The Police - "Truth Hits Everybody"
Rush - "Closer to the Heart"
Rush - "Red Barchetta"
Siouxsie and The Banshees - "Kiss Them for Me"
Steve Miller Band - "Take the Money and Run"
Steve Miller Band - "The Joker"
The Stone Roses - "Love Spreads"
The Who - "Baba O'Riley"
The Who - "Behind Blue Eyes"

i rather have disc version any how , do you realize how expensive dlc is , put to gether 3 songs each for 440 , , its lame , and they take hdd space, thats another thing , 120 gb goes fast ,, i prefer disc over dlc bc i dont need to install it and its a seperate disc so if the rock band disc got scratch i still can play that one , at least,

I agree that if you have ps3 or Xbox 360 the track packs are a waste of money but people have to realize that track packs are really great to people with the ps2 and wii versions. everytime theres a new track pack that comes out, people always complain that they can just download all these songs and half of them aren't good anyway. you people make me sick. PS Jedilink: Lenny Kravitz IS classic rock. Thats like trying to say Van Halen isn't classic rock.

Theres Some Decent Stuff On Here, Unfortunatly I've Played Most The Songs On The Previous Rockband And Guitar Hero Games...Very Disappointed

sohnds like half the songs are probally already been downloaded by most players, as they have already been released as dlc, unless i am wrong, thanks for the news though...

Um, I dont get it. Who's gonna actually buy this when you can pick & choose the songs you want already via DLC? I suppose if youre a PS2 or Wii owner this might be something to think about, but if youre playing an Xbox or PS3 it just makes more sense to download what you want. Oh, and my 2 cents....Baba O'Riley is a totally worthless track. Half the song is a keyboard solo...vocals dont kick-in until halfway through, and you spend two-thirds of the song twiddling your thumbs while waiting for any guitar. Dont waste your 160 MS points on this one!

Wait what?! Lenny Kravitz is classic rock? When did this happen and how long have I been out of it?

Plain and simple: 3 of these songs interest me. The rest do not.

My statement would make even more sense if Who Are You was one of The Who songs in the game..........must learn to read...MUST learn to read.

Zoomer30

Perfect commercial idea: The cast from CSI (the first one) playing the theme song Who Are You by (duuuuh) The Who. After Gil Grissom gets a 99% on expert, he can quip "And to think I spent all my time looking at bugs!"

I have no qualms with this as not everyone has an online account to download all the songs, so I'm okay with this. Shame there won't be a Rock Band 3 this year. But as long as the stellar DLC keeps lining up, I won't mind.

to keving7: the people with the ps2 version of rock band cant download. these track packs are useful to us unfortunate people who didn't have any other system at the time we bought rock band. and people who don't have online with the other systems cant download either. its not ripping people off, it makes it so everyone gets dlc songs.

Fridge-Raider

holy **** half of theses songs are absolutely amazing! the other half arent bad or i havent heard of them. this disc is mine when it comes out. and i love how they have 2 songs from good bands. the who, rush, boston, the police. i cant believe they didnt have some of these songs on RB1 or 2.

this is honestly the stupidest thing i've ever seen. You can download a bunch of these tracks already through DLC. way to try to rip people off. i love rockband, but F THIS

drand24
drand24

great idea with a great song list. I'm not buying it since I own exactly half these songs already, but I love the idea giving people that don't have an internet connection a chance to pick up some good DLC. not a bad price point if you rip the songs to the hard drive and sell the game back either.

i like every song there. going to buy it for sure

I think it is said these track packs even sell... don't people realize you can just DL them? Instead people wait until it gets put on a disc and on a walmart shelf before they buy it. Sad. I guess this way you do get 5 songs 'free' with the purchase... but what are the chances you'll like ALL the songs... so it is probably a wash in the long run but now with a 25% chance crap you don't want to play will show up in your 'random' setlists.

good lord that sounds funky! love rush. Recently started respecting kravitz... hes got a funky track or two.. Love stevie miller band and ofcoarse the who... free... awsome. I The big one here is funk 49 by james gang... it hasnt got an instatly recognisable name, but seriously get it and you wont be let down. its gotta be one of the funkiest tracks of that particularly filthy decade in rock n' roll! Btw rock band or guitar hero?... i miss having a silly plastic geet around the house

@ Battlesword1 Rush revolutionized classic rock in the 70's. They're also one of the largest influences to Canadian Culture. What the hell do you even know about music?...

gotta admit its good for the people who dont have access to XBL or PSN, only problem is the fact with these you dont get the songs you really want usually.

I saw Boston and got excited, but they should really add "We're Ready" and "Cool the Engines". In fact, the whole Third Stage album ought to be released and made to be played the whole way through like the CD is.

I won't be getting this, but that's only because I have the tracks I already want downloaded on my 360. Otherwise, I think it's great that they're giving Wii owners the chance to check out some DLC at a decent price.

Lenny Kravitz? Dead Kennedys? Rush? WTF, I thought this was supposed to be classic rock.

"jazilla Posted Mar 23, 2009 5:27 pm PT hey harmonix. i am not a cow! stop trying to milk me!" Really dude? Trying to milk you? Releasing 20 songs at a discounted rate is milking? You'd rather spend 40 bucks downloading them? Please think before you type something.

Considering the median age of the demographic they're shooting for here, is it any wonder they are aiming for a method that avoids that fancy interwebs?

Cool it people, its for those who don't game online or don't want to download DLC, not an actual stand alone game.
