Borderlands 2 pirate-themed DLC out next week

First expansion for Gearbox's shooter Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty out October 16 for $10 alongside Mechromancer class.

by

The first of four campaign expansions for Borderlands 2 will release next week. The content is called Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty and is due out October 16 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Yarr.

The content focuses on a character who is trying to build a tropical paradise on Pandora, but has thus far only attracted pirates.

Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty will be available for $10 or 800 MS points as a standalone download. The content is included for those who hold a $30 Borderlands 2 DLC season pass.

The release of Captain Scarlett and her Pirate's Booty follows the Mechromancer DLC, which released earlier this week. It is available for $10 and is free for those who preordered the game.

Anyway, it is better to wait untill they make all their DLCs on one disk with the original.

Personally, I think this is too soon for a DLC. It gives the message that this would've been in the original game but was excluded because they wanted an extra buck. I still haven't bought this game yet but I think I'll wait until they release a version that includes all DLCs. I need to learn how to be more patient lol.

Realistically, this DLC was completed when the game was. Hate how they are now charging extra for it.

I like the title.  It's just amazing how faster DLC is being released so soon after the original games release.  I just started my second playthru, and won't be ready for DLC for some time.

Well that's surprising. 80% of the comments debate the "right-ness" of DLC. Unintersting........I excite for pirate fight.

I should have known pirates would have appeared on this game sooner or later.

Didn't this game just get released a month ago? This is getting so ridiculous! It's an increase in game prices without seeing it straight. No one would buy the games at $100 a pop, but make new stuff come out every two months, with $60 initial price, they sell well. Ah the quick to forget generation of our time (including me).

Considering it's Somali Pirate themed, you should be expecting a tanker full of treasures similar to the armory in Knoxx.

I'm bored of Bord(heh)erlands 2 already, but 93 hours clocked into it is nothing to sneeze at.  I've had my fun with it, and I don't anticipate picking up DLC for it.

There's nothing more viable than a sniper rifle in most cases due to distance and accuracy(accuracy being non-existent with most of the other weapons), which gets old after awhile... and Salvador who has a tanking tree can't really tank very much at all, though at lower levels it was a lot of fun to run around with two shotguns and just shred things to pieces.  There's very little strategy just from the inherent nature of shooter mechanics so I don't get what they can come up with for DLC that wouldn't feel like more of the same.  It's the loot that keeps me going for awhile, but that novelty wears off eventually.

borderlands 1 didn't get good DLC until General Knoxx, and that was the 3rd one. i'll wait and see if this is any good before buying it.

Im hoping this dlc adds level cap increase. But i also hope it adds another "invincible boss". if it happens, great, if not, no biggie

Will be buying this.

And to anyone who hasn't beat PT1 or 2 yet, you will be happy to know there is more content on the other side of the double rainbow. Gearbox always wants you to have content on your plate.

General Knox's expansion was a great DLC for Borderlands one. I hope this will be of the same scope and quality. If so, Ill definitely buy it.

i can rest easy knowing that there are dev's out there...that still care about making games fun and interesting.

Get the facts straight peeps. Gearbox announced the main game was done a whole 2 months before launch, not just 1. Regardless of when they were working on this new DLC (which sounds bootilicious and I'm pleasantly surprised to see coming out so soon), I'll def. be picking it up. Still on the fence though if I want to get it as part of the season pass or trade-up later for the GOTY.

I honestly couldn't care less if they made the DLC way before the game's release. As long as this sequestering of content doesn't influence the final product (i.e. make it seem incomplete), I couldn't care less. And I'm in no hurry to call Borderlands 2 incomplete, it's far from it, in fact. Gearbox make fantastic DLC overall as well, so that's another great reason to get the DLC. I rarely ever buy it, but Gearbox are an exception.

I'll pass, only DLC i'm eyeing is Artorias of the Abyss for Dark Souls.

 @ALCHEMYSTO I don't have a problem with the DLC business model where it is used in a pro consumer manner, and the customer is given value for what they pay for. In the case of BL2 they give you value. There are some bad parts to this DLC, but they certainly give you $10 in value imo based hours of content. The problem with DLC business model is not the business model, but how some companies use it imo. Anyhow, DLC is usually for the hardcore fans of a title, and usually those people are willing to pay a little bit more than everyone else to get more from the experience. If you are not a hardcore fan of anything than perhaps this is something foreign to you and you may or may not understand.

F2P games already rent guns to you for in-game currency, but they give you the base game for free, like blacklight retribution, or TF2. Paying for cosmetics is fine. Actually in a F2P business model that's how it should be done, so that the balance of the game isn't changed by purchasing "better" weapons/items.

Guild Wars 2 is a shining example of how MMOs can work without subscriptions. I do not like subscriptions personally, but some may find value in it, while others do not.

I agree some aspects of your statement, but this topic is not easily discussed in the limited space made available in GS comments.

 @Jake518 I agree that it seems too soon to be releasing a campaign DLC. I do not know what Gearbox's strategy is but the only logical explanation I can come up with, aside from economics of the video games industry, is for hardcore fans of the series like me. I played my 300th hour of Borderlands 2 today, and have 10 characters including Gaige. I still don't have Gaige @ level 50, but she's getting there (now at level 40). This release date is great for the hardcore fans because it's perfect timing for new content, and usually the people buying the DLCs are the hardcore fans or people with more money than they know what to do with.

IMO the original Borderlands 2 vanilla without DLC is great value for money @ $60 MSRP. If you blast through the campaign and ignore EVERYTHING else (which is A LOT btw) you will probably get a good 20-30 hours out of the experience.

 @tommygun6644 Yeah. They probably even released the game a week early just to make it look like the game was out longer before the DLC was released.

 @Aderdunn_3 I hope by the time that comes out the online community isn't just hackers and modders. Waiting 1 year to save $30 doesn't really seem like that good of a deal to me.

 @sk8oridie44

 I do agree with most of what you say, but there are some games I would pay $100 for, and I am a tightwad, go figure. At the same time there are some games I wouldn't pay anything for. It will continue to boggle my mind how some games that offer well over 100 hours of good content can cost the same as some that offer 20 hours at best, and still charge the same price.

acealexander702

 @sk8oridie44 I appreciate new DLC actually, I've actually completed the game, both playthroughs with all 4 characters, leveled all 5 characters to 50, working on finishing Gaige's second playthrough, as you can see, I'm getting closer and closer to boredom, this new DLC is right on time, soon I'll have new content to further my enjoyment with BL2, and its totally optional, don't want to pay for it? Don't buy it :P do you know the process of making a game? Also moderating a game, making patches, listening to feedback, etc, then they have to work on DLC and do all that moderating again. Gaige was originally gonna be in the game, but didn't make the cut, because when you initially release a game you have to copy it to discs, package them, then send them off around the world, they refer the time you send off games as going gold, so there's a dead line to what they put in those discs initially

 @Crazyguy105 Yeah, the community at large would disagree with you.  While I think General Knoxx was my favorite, they were all good (except Moxxi)

 @DeadlyCrayonz I do believe there is going to be a raid boss. Just don't use The Bee and the bosses will be more fun and challenging.

 @comb5  @Aderdunn_3 Here's the deal. Some people do not find value in the Borderlands series, and that's why they have the GOTY edition. Hardcore fans, and people who love the game will see value in Borderlands 2 from release.

There are also those who are not hardcore fans but still see value in Borderlands 2 as it is right now.

And of course there are also those who no matter what you say wouldn't spend more than $5 on a game no matter how good it is regardless of their financial situation. They will always say a game is not worth it, and speak about a fairy tale past where "expansions were free!". My challenge to those people is to name a game on consoles up to the PS2 generation that had free expansions cause I certainly don't know of any that were free.

 @JaylisJayP  @WCK619 Going through my game catalog now.........Yep, probably Knoxx is the best.  Other honorable mentions include Mass Effect 2 Operation Overlord, Portal 2 Perpetual Testing Initiative, and Fallout 3: Point Lookout, but none of those had as big of an impact as General Knoxx which I remember raving about to my friends.

 @mboettcher  @WCK619

 I enjoyed Moxxi's DLC.  Personally, there are times when I JUST want to frickin shoot and not deal with walking anywhere.  Moxxi's was a great change of pace from Knoxx, which I personally consider the best DLC of any game ever (Knoxx, that is).

 @WCK619

To quote the Borderlands wiki it was, "the only DLC that doesn't contain a full plot with side missions and multiple plot missions." As such, it just didn't hold my interest.  I know some people enjoyed it, especially co-op, and I really like the arenas in BL2, but compared to the other three DLCs it just doesn't stack up.
