Borderlands 2 getting Krieg the Psycho Bandit on May 14

New character will cost $9.99 and is not included in the Borderlands 2 season pass.

by

Borderlands 2's sixth playable character, Krieg the Psycho Bandit, will be released on May 14, Gearbox has announced.

Krieg is a high-risk melee brawler who sports a buzz axe, and features multiple psychotic personalities. The character's three skill trees--Bloodlust, Mania, and Hellborn--allow Krieg to get stronger as he fights with his axe, stronger as he takes damage, and stronger as he's set on fire, respectively.

The character will be released as part of the $9.99 Psycho Pack downloadable content. The game's fifth character, Gaige, was released in October 2012 for the same price.

Neither additional characters are included in Borderlands 2's $30 season pass.

Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, the last chunk of Borderlands 2 DLC to be included in the season pass, will be released on June 25. The new questline follows previous packs Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage, and Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty.

Still furious that there was additional paid DLC beyond the Season Pass. Even more infuriating are the people defending this, like nickel and diming us is acceptable and we should just get used to it. Being sold a game in a piecemeal fashion for an extra 50 dollars is not appropriate.

You know what would be really nice? If Gearbox altered the intro video for the game so that it took advantage of the fact that there are more then 4 vault hunters in the game now. Even just adding character recordings for Gaige and Krieg, like the ones that the other characters get, into the game would be a nice way to better integrate them into the game world.

well i did manage to get BL2 on steam when it was 29.99 (only had to wait 2 weeks after release for this sweet sale) and then season pass went on sale for 14.99. gotta love steam! even if i do buy this character, ill still have paid less than everyone else who JUST bought the game on release...

I can't understand people being frustrated for more DLC characters. I thought that's what people wanted after BL1 failed to get this. So when BL2 puts them in you still ***** anyway? Why? It's not like your missing anything that expands the gameplay of your existing characters and isn't really needed to play more quests....

Optional as hell and people **** anyway...

There better be a complete GOTY edition of this game, just like the first Borderlands.

One more thing, is there some group of people that just stalk the news page waiting for DLC announcements? Jumping at the chance to complain about the cursed existence of DLC and reminisce about the old days of expansion packs? Like I said earlier, most games never even got expansion packs. You had your sims, your mmos, and strategy games releasing this stuff. And sometimes a game of a different genre would release something, but not often. You're good old days are just nostalgia you invented to combat the fact games release DLC you want but don't want to pay for.

I got to ask, what rock were you people hiding under? Anyone who followed Borderlands 2 knew this was coming. The Season's Pass was announced as covering four campaign DLC. And Geabox admitted they were interested in releasing a new character class. This isn't some shocking turn of events.

Really don't feel like playing a new character and going through the storyline for a 6th time.. seriously i can write the whole borderlands 2 story after playing it multiple times.. it gets tedious and don't think i'll be doing that again..

Quickpoll:

Did you like Borderlands 2? Also, what other types of games do you typically play?

I remember when extra content for an already released game was worth it cost around 30$ and was atleast a quarter the size of the actual game if not half. Now we get charged 5 - 30$ for something as small as a character costume to as big as a tenth of a game.

It is what it is however, The day of expansions seems to have fallen in to ruin :/

SUNDRAGONJ

Well that sucks but w/e. But 10$ is a little absurd for just ONE character, if it was 5$ then by all means. Looks like I'm gonna pass unless I hear/see good thing from Krieg.

Why are people still complaining this was not included in the seasons pass?  When it was announced they straight up said it would be for 4 story based DLC's and that there would be other stuff put out that was not included.  Also who is forcing you  to buy all this extra sh*t?  Don't like it don't buy it.

Borderlands 2 was ok, but Gearbox isn't getting another penny from me after Aliens Colonial Marines.

I still haven't picked up a single DLC, I am waiting for a Steam sale.  This one isn't nearly as good as the Borderlands..although its still fun.

"If we call it a season pass, people will think they get what they pay for, but then we just release non-applicable dlcs to claim an extra $20 on top of the players original $80."

Sefrix

So they aren't even done with the game yet and people have paid over $100 into it. I'll never understand why people support this kind of thing >.<

@nephili232 You payed for four dlc's and a level cap increase and that's what you got.

Overeduk8ed

@nephili232 Yeah! Options are bad! Choice is wrong! No one should be able to make choices in an open market! Everyone should have the same option!

@Darkmoone1 I think I understand some people being upset.  But forget that, I'm excited to play a crazy melee character. Now hoping gmg will have this 20+% off.

@-Fromage- Or maybe a second DLC pack similar to the first DLC pack they released earlier this year.

4nationfury

@-Fromage- I'm assuming there will be, but it remains to be seen if it will include all campaigns and characters.

@4nationfury 95% of the people who are on these forums are fucking idiots, you can't expect anything less than stupidity from them. They literally believe that their comments are being seen by game developers and publishers, and that some change is going to happen.

4nationfury

@SebCrakpot1234 For those wanting the four 10$ campaign DLCs. You get dibs on all four of them, but for ten dollars less.

slowram

@100proofsoco Free BL2 content would be sweet, but don't get all down on them they did include the Ultimate upgrade pack which was never listed as being part of season pass.  Granted I'd rather have another free character.  Also Gaige was a great freebie for pre-orders best pre-order content I"ve ever received from any game.  So I feel Gearbox is ahead of the curve on AAA  studio fan loyalty.

4nationfury
4nationfury

@Daimonick Where do you pay five bucks for a costume? Almost every DLC costume I've seen can be purchased for a dollar. Are you playing free2play games or something?

slowram
slowram

@SUNDRAGONJ I agree, seems a bit much for 1 character I'm hoping there will be some other things as well.  This article says he will be part of a 9.99 psycho pack so I'm hopeful that means there's more to it.

@Gamer-GeekSeason passes usually contain all the DLC available for a game, so despite there being four well-received DLC's included in the season pass, I still think it's a bit of false advertisement/misleading/simply bad to release stuff that isn't part of it.

The way Gearbox handles this and the article about Star Wars and EA makes me think of this quote where Lando Calrissian and Darth Vader are chatting: "This wasn't part of our deal", "I'm altering the deal, pray I do not alter it any further".

slowram

@Sefrix I pre-ordered game for $40, pre-ordered season pass for $22, unless I hear real negatives will get this extra character for $10 so for $72 I get the game, 4 dlc, ultimate upgrade pack, Gaige, and Krieg.  Not bad for a game I've spent 100 hours in so far and I"ve barely touched 3 of the DLCs (1 not being out yet).

Unlike some games I've not felt ripped off with BL2 because the original release version felt nearly as vast as BL GOTY with all the dlc.

I was worried with the season pass they would put out some junk DLC, but I've been happy with the DLC thus far.

grbolivar

@Sefrix Luckly I got the game in eBay for just $15, last time I buy a Season Pass though, I'm not supporting this BS anymore.

Psycold

@Overeduk8ed @nephili232 You only need to look at Valve and Left 4 Dead and you can see that developers are perfectly capable of creating new free content. In fact Valve stopped creating new L4D content on consoles because they hate that MS would charge people for it even when Valve wanted it released for free. Because of this, L4D2 is the ONLY multiplayer game I still play and between the two games I have 600 hours clocked.

@slowram Glad you have enjoyed it :) Sounds like some smart shopping to me.

@grbolivar Got mine a few weeks after it came out from Amazon for $20. I've yet to buy any DLC or season passes and I didn't this time either. Why would I spend more for the DLC than I did for the game itself? :P

Overeduk8ed
Overeduk8ed

@Psycold What does being "perfectly capable" have to do with anything? Because one entity chooses to give you something for free, you expect it from all of them?

If some guy at your work decides to come in and work for free, and your boss tells you "Well, Billy works for free, so obviously it's possible and anyone can do it!", are you gonna decide "Oh, hey, if BILLY does it that way, maybe EVERYONE should!!!"

No, you're not, because that's stupid.

@F22_King_Raptor That sounds like a great idea except for having to go to Gamestop :P Normally I'm so behind on games I buy the GOTY edition for $30 or less, but when I saw Amazon selling it for $20 I went ahead and bought it.

crimsonbrute
crimsonbrute moderator

@Sefrix Do what I do. Buy the basic game and go to Gamestop and buy the eventual GOTY edition used. Install all the DLC then return it later.
