Borderlands 2 DLC comes to a close today

Sir Hammerlock Versus the Son of Crawmerax is the final expansion for Gearbox's game, available now on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC for $3.

After more than 18 months of ongoing support through various expansions, Gearbox Software today released the final digital add-on for its record-setting shooter Borderlands 2.

The final DLC pack is the fifth installment in the Headhunter series, officially called Sir Hammerlock Versus the Son of Crawmerax. It's available today for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC/Mac through Steam for $2.99 / GBP £2.39 / EUR €2,99.

In the DLC, you'll join Sir Hammerlock along with Brick, Mordecai, and Lilith on Wam Bam Island in the "biggest Headhunter add-on in the series." At the end of the content, you'll square off against Crawmerax Jr., son of the the crab worm from The Secret Armory of General Knoxx from the original Borderlands game.

During a panel at PAX East this past weekend, Gearbox said that though Sir Hammerlock Versus the Son of Crawmerax is the final expansion for Borderlands 2, the studio will continue to support the game through general updates. No new content is in the works, though.

Gearbox is currently working alongside 2K Australia on Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The studio is also working on unannounced new games for next-generation consoles. Gearbox president Randy Pitchford said recently that the studio will "probably" have a new game for new consoles to announce as early as later this year.

Borderlands 2 for Playstation Vita, complete with 6 DLC add ons?!? This game is set to single handedly reinvent and overhaul hand-held gaming. From what I hear this game will have an epic online platform and of course the millions upon millions of gun variations for endless destructive fun. May 13th can’t come soon enough! I pre-ordered it because I imagine it will sell out quick. This was the lowest price I could find online: http://www.freshlineup.com/forhim/borderlands-2-for-ps-vita

Only a year and a half after original release? I loved the original game and would like to play the DLC, but there's just too much other stuff that has come out and waiting for me that I just don't have the time to play this. Maybe when the final GOTY edition comes I will be able to play it(you know, when all the DLC is on one disc unlike the half GOTY edition they came out with like 6 months ago). Has there ever been anyone who came out with a GOTY edition about halfway through the DLC process?

Remind me to play the other Headhunter DLCs as I've yet to touch them. :P

Does this mean they will be releasing a second GOTY?!? Wonder if they will actually include all Borderlands 2 content this time as part of the GOTY2 edition?

I'd rank these Crawmerax heads down there on the bottom with the Gobbler heads. Not too eye appealing. Especially, on female characters. Can anyone give an opinion on the dlc itself? Is it worth the cheap $2.99 price?

seems like every year the season pass loses value, might as well wait for GOTY and buy the remaining content.

Checked both PS Store and Xbox Live and don't see it listed. Probably soon.

I have been opposed to DLC in most cases (read, COD) and miss the days of the real modding community. Typically I would never consider purchasing DLC, as I see it as a cash grab as well. HOWEVER, in the case of BL2, I do support it. This game is loaded with content and I personally feel I easily get my moneys worth in most cases (there are a few exceptions...I mean, 9.99 for a new character is a gouge IMO) and some of the DLC is just awesome. Dragons keep was a blast and Soooooo much new content was put into that. Yep, though I can't stand Pitchford and think he's a POS lying snake in the grass snake oil salesman suffering illusions of grandeur, BL2 and it's DLC, I give two thumbs up...and that is unheard of in DLC from me :)

Of course, they have all the DLC to plan for BL: Pre-Sequel!

I miss the old days where developers made games that were complete out of the box,dlc affords them to make games that offer a basic core experience then cash in on the fans need to play more of the game by releasing content that back in the day would have been included in the full game, and whats worse people actually believe this is a good thing i fear for the future of gaming it's bad enough the fact that developers now leave out enough content for them to make a game of the year edition now they have enough left to make a second, i think gearbox is now starting to copy capcom were now getting borderlands the pre sequel whats next? super borderlands 2 turbo hyper arcade deluxe edition, my point is games should be complete from start it's a shame it will never happen oh well.

I tried to get into the original Borderlands game back in 2010 on the PS3 and couldn't, but I've heard nothing but great things about Borderlands, especially the 2nd game, so I may take a punt on the Borderlands 1 and 2 GOTY editions if they are ever on a Steam sale.

Don't worry, 2K/gearbox is already on the way with that Pre-sequel that just uses BL2 engine. It will deliver the same barely any effort into itemization and poor scaling of balancing, followed by a dozen more money milking overpriced dlc's that contain 1/10th of the content of the game but priced nearly 1/2 of the game itself, oh and probably character skins again.

And then BL2 GOTY2 comes and a week later more DLC comes

Sweet going to be a BL2 night for me. one question though if i crouch in the far corner will crawmerax Jr. ignore me.

BL2 is one hell of a cow. Look at how much it got milked.

instead of releasing worthless trash with no content for 2.99 why not make an expansion with shitload of stuff to do ever 6 month? Stupid Gearbox

I'll get this DLC down the road but I'm all burn out from BL2 and this is not on my radar.

If people buy all Borderlands DLCs they are out of their fucking mind. It is like buying a game three times.

unreal101

Now they're gonna start on the DLC for the next game!

StHapns247
StHapns247

So they supported this game almost until the new one came out. If you are a gamer on a budget and can only afford a few games here an there this game with the season pass would provide you with dozens of hours of entertainment.

Even the DLC not included in the season pass was modestly priced and well worth the investment.

terrariafan247

Did you even play Saints Row 4?! It had a LOT more content than most DLCs.

@willjohnboy  Borderlands 2's main game was actually a really good value for its length and content, and offered some of the funniest moments in a game that I can remember.

ColdstoneX3
ColdstoneX3

@willjohnboy not to burst your bubble m8, but even in the old days, games got expansion packs to expand on the core game experience. While i agree in part that alot of companys do DLC for the simple cash grab...i really dont consider the Borderland Devs to be a part of it, up until now i got alot of value out of each DLC for borderlands, and the headhunter DLCs which were shorter in experience were also alot cheaper. Overall the Borderlands francise is the one thing i consider Gearbox to have done right. Though as with most things, everyone has a different opinion, so to each their own :)

@19James89 Get the first. Forget the second. Second is great and all but the "tuned" it to the point of tedium. First game still has acceptable drop rates that don't make you feel like you need to give up on life to gear your character.

@Vexov Thank you, Captain Whine. I was worried for a moment there.

unreal101
unreal101

@silversix_ They did both while supporting the game. There are four large expansions and some smaller ones.

unreal101
unreal101

@Godlikan There are ways to do it right.  Every single piece of Fallout 3/Fallout NV DLC is brilliant.

dominoodle

@Dannystaples14  No, it's not like buying a game three times. If you buy a game three times you're buying all of the same content three times. If you're buying the DLC you're buying new content

unreal101
unreal101

@Dannystaples14 Meh. Borderlands content gives you a LOT of time for your money, much more than most games, especially in the FPS genre. It's a bargain, even if there's a lot of it. I'm not surprised people buy it.

unreal101
unreal101

@StHapns247 The content support is nice, but their tech support is awful. They never fixed the freeze bug plaguing a large percentage of Nvidia/Intel users. I've pretty much given up finishing BL2 until my next hardware upgrade.

willjohnboy
willjohnboy

@dogman7 @willjohnboy I agree i bought the vault hunter edition and completed it with every character except for krieg (he was paid dlc i had gaige for free) and the game of the year which i completed all the story dlc, my point is releasing more paid dlc after a game of the year addition has been released is greedy and in my opinion gearbox should have made it so any one who bought the GOTY edition had any future DLC for free as a thank you to loyal fans.

whackyq
whackyq

@ColdstoneX3 @willjohnboy Expansion packs are fine (like blizzard ones I guess) but what Borderlands 2 does is just...unacceptable in my book. I know that "game of the year edition" doesnt have any kind of definition which holds it to have all the DLCs, but come the f*** on...I feel especially bad for season pass owners.

seanwil545
seanwil545

@ColdstoneX3 @willjohnboy

I'm certainly not a huge DLC fan, but I would agree with your comments. Even the first Unreal and COD both had expansion packs...back in '98 and 2004 respectively.

I bought most of the Headhunter Packs, but it was only after I had already completed the game and had stopped playing.

The packs allowed me to level up a bit more and squeeze a bit more juice out of the game. I'll probably pass on this latest pack because there are other games I'd rather be playing at this point.

Announcing DLC before a game is even released screams cash-grab

willjohnboy
willjohnboy

@ColdstoneX3 @willjohnbo  i was actually talking about old console games in the days of the nes, snes and ps1 only fighting games back then kind of did that, the street figher 2 is the prime example it was never  as bad as this, how many console games now can you think of since dlc was introduced that is complete from start (no paid dlc) back in the days of the NES and Snes you could name hundreds if not thousands that's what i miss.
i'm not trying to start a argument i respect your opinion i thought i should add this as i don't want my comment to be taken the wrong way

@EasyComeEasyGo  goty of BL2 is allready out for months...the headhunter packs came after goty was released, i doubt that they will release second goty version with headhunter packs in it.

StHapns247
StHapns247

@unreal101 @StHapns247  Hm, I've only played it on 360, so I didn't know there were still game breaking bugs like that.

I guess that's one down side of PC gaming, there are so many variables to account for that sometimes things like that happens. Although, an Nvidia/Intel bug seems like a pretty substantial issue.

willjohnboy
willjohnboy

@seanwil545 thats why i miss my NES and SNES complete games except for streetfigher 2 damn you capcom cash crabbing since 1991 lol

unreal101
unreal101

@StHapns247 @unreal101 Yeah, but with most PC games the community will come up with a fix if the Dev does not. With BL2, it's so bad that no one can even fix it  :P
