Last year, Electronic Arts took its first major steps into the mass-appeal music genre by teaming with MTV Games for Rock Band and producing its own dancing and singing game for the Wii, DS, and PlayStation 2 in Boogie. After a few months of rest, the publisher is ready to get back out on the dance floor with this week's announcement of Boogie SuperStar for the Wii.

The second installment in the series will bring the same karaoke-and-rug-cutting gameplay to bear on a setlist of 40 new songs from the likes of Rihanna, Fergie, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Maroon 5, Alicia Keys, and Good Charlotte. EA also teased a mystery "chart-topping, global music sensation" who will serve as the game's featured artist.

Boogie SuperStar includes cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes for up to four, as well as character customization options and a story mode. Developed by EA Montreal, the game is set for release this October in North America and Europe, followed shortly by a launch in Asian territories.
