Bombastic E3 2003 Preshow Report

Capcom is bringing the Xi series back to North America in the form of Bombastic.

Capcom has announced its plans to bring a dice-themed puzzle game called Bombastic to North America. The game was originally released in Japan in December 2002 under the name Xi Go. The series may be more familiar under the name Devil Dice, which THQ used when it brought a PlayStation version of Xi to North America in 1998.

The game's basic concept is that you're a character running around on top of a field full of explosive dice. To get the dice to disappear from the playfield, you need to link them together, matching the number on the dice and the number of dice you're linking. So, for example, you'll need to connect only two dice with twos facing up, but chaining together sixes will require you to roll the dice around until you can connect six of them together at once. The game also has a competitive element that can be played by up to five players via the use of a PlayStation 2 Multitap and allows you to choose from war and battle modes. Classic mode will play like the older Xi games, while quest mode will set you off on a mission through various dice-filled worlds.

Bombastic is scheduled for release this July.
