Blizzard to Announce World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor Release Date Next Week at This Epic-Looking Venue

Blizzard to officially announce street-date for upcoming World of Warcraft expansion on August 14.

During a special event in Los Angeles next week, Blizzard Entertainment will announce the release date for Warlords of Draenor, the latest expansion for genre-defining MMO World of Warcraft. The event will take place Thursday, August 14 at 9:30 AM PDT and you can watch it live online or in-person, Blizzard said today in an announcement on its website. We know Warlords of Draenor will be out by the end of the year, but the official release date remains under wraps.

In addition to the release date for Warlords of Draenor, Blizzard will premiere the expansion's cinematic during the event. Blizzard executives Mike Morhaime (CEO) and Chris Metzen (SVP of creative development), along with World of Warcraft designers Ion Hazzikostas and Brian Holinka, will attend the event, where they will talk about the upcoming expansion.

The Theatre at Ace Hotel

On top of that, the special LA event will serve as the first place to see the debut episode in the new animated World of Warcraft mini-series called Lords of War. The event itself is being held at the Theatre at Ace Hotel, a really epic-looking entertainment venue with a capacity of 1,600. If you attend the event in-person (even if you don't get in), you'll receive a beta key for Warlords of Draenor. People 12 years of age or under need to be accompanied by an adult.

Warlords of Draenor is World of Warcraft's fifth expansion, following The Burning Crusade (2007), Wrath of the Lich King (2008), Cataclysm (2010), and Mists of Pandaria (2012). The expansion introduces new zones and raises the level cap to 100. It also comes with an instant character boost to level 90, which you can unlock right now by pre-purchasing the expansion.

With all the things they've been cutting out and delaying, not surprised Blizzard wants this released sooner than later.  I'm in beta right now and they have ALOT of work to do.  Even for Blizzard's standards this game ain't ready.

Then again, they did release Diablo 3

Well, they don't want to interfere too much with the release of Destiny, but they will certainly want to take advantage of the holiday blitz. Late November-ish, maybe?

I wonder how much it would cost for a new player to start playing the expansion; 30 euro's for the first 2 expansion and 40 euro's for the last two expansion and this one would probably cost 60 euro's. That's too much money for anyone to want to invest in a game....

Man, I can't believe they just came right out and said that - August 14th!  I was really expecting that they would be announcing the date (August 4th) of when they were going to announce the date of when they were going to announce the date of release.  Blizzard is really flying by the seat of their pants these days!  ;)

@Godly_Kongming Its still good and people still enjoy it. Why do you want it to die? Does it hurt if you if some fans still play it?

@Godly_Kongming I play my super nintendo more than my PS3 and the games for that are far older than 12 years. It obviously still has a player base that wants it to continue. Blizzard is currently working on a super secret MMO as well.

@Deano We're already almost a full two years since the last one.

@cboye18 $20 gets you the WoW Battle Chest which includes the first three expansions. Another $20 will get you the most recent expansion, Mists of Pandaria.

They frequently go on sale for $5 and $15, respectively. So you can get the full game for $20 if you wait for the deal to pop up again.

This new expansion will be $50, assuming you want to buy it as a new player. In another year or so, Mists of Pandaria will be rolled into the battlechest and Warlords of Draenor will receive a price cut.

@AmaranthSparrow @cboye18 I've seen vanilla WoW being given away for free at times and the rest of the expansions bundled into a $20 package. I got Mists for $10.
