Blackjack Hustler E3 2005 First Look

We take a glimpse at Blackjack Hustler, Sorrent's virtual card game.

In Blackjack Hustler you play the game of blackjack either in pickup games or tournaments to increase your earnings and overall status. Although most of the gameplay consists of blackjack itself, you will be able to interact with your apartment, an interface that allows you to check messages and sleep, among other things.

There are two types of games in Blackjack Hustler, regular blackjack games and tournaments. It seems that the only difference between these is that the risk and rewards will be greater in the tournaments, and that you might not be able to affect the settings in them as easily as you can in the filler games.

The objective of the game is clearly to be the blackjack champion, although the rewards won't strictly be monetary. To discourage people from merely competing in a ton of filler games to bump up their finances, players will be rated by their prize assets as well as the amount of money they have won. This will give some indication of exactly how skilled players are, and it can be uploaded to a universal leaderboard, so that players can cross-reference their winnings against other people around the world.

If you are unsuccessful in the tournaments, you'll be able to take out loans so that you can refill your pockets without having to restart the game. You'll receive reminders, sometimes in the form of death threats, in your apartment mailbox. You'll also receive messages about upcoming tournaments. Since the game does factor in time, you can either play filler games or sleep in your apartment until tournament day.

The interface, whether it's in the apartment setting or in the casino, is crisp and easy to maneuver through. The apartment is definitely a neat interface, both in appearance and function, and it ties the whole game together. It's more than refreshing to see a card game making its way to mobile in the near future that does not have "hold 'em" in the title. There's currently no release date for Blackjack Hustler, so keep an eye on the gamespace for more details.
