Black Ops II preorders outpace predecessor's

[UPDATE]: Amazon reveals first-day preorder figure for Treyarch's new Call of Duty 10 times higher than that of 2010 original; retailer's UK site reports Black Ops II reservations triple the first game's.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II has already bested the original in at least one category. Amazon UK said today that day-one preorder figures for Treyarch's just-announced shooter came in at three times higher than what the original Call of Duty: Black Ops recorded in 2010.

UK Amazon shoppers flocked to Black Ops II yesterday.

Specific figures were not provided, and as of press time, Amazon's North American arm had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment on figures for the United States.

Black Ops II is in development at Treyarch by some 300 staffers and is due out on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 13, 2012. The game will feature a campaign split in two. One half of the adventure will pick up immediately following the events of the original Black Ops, with players following the journey of Frank Woods. The other half of the campaign begins in the year 2025, a time when advanced weapon technologies rule supreme.

Additionally, Black Ops II will feature a competitive multiplayer component set in the year 2025, as well as the fan-favorite Zombies mode. For more on what's new in Black Ops II, check out GameSpot's Five Biggest Surprises About Call of Duty: Black Ops II preview feature.

[UPDATE]: A US Amazon representative told GameSpot the game is trending even better in North America, saying, "Preorders from day 1 of Black Ops II were more than 10 times the amount of preorders for the first Black Ops on its first day of availability. Black Ops II even out preordered the first day of availability for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 by more than 30 percent. Modern Warfare 3 currently holds the record for the most preordered game of all time and was amongst the top 20 preorders ever on Amazon.com, including books and movies."

Ah yes, let all the members of hamburger world pull out their wallets for another greasy, bland, copy/pasted COD game.  The first blops was a fail.  So why not pay for another faceroll?  And if you are in any way mad at this comment, you should take both yourself and me less seriously.  You should also take a long walk on the beach and think about why the hell you are defensive about a game that has done nothing but waste your time and money.

It's a well known fact that the more popular a given game gets the more haters it will have for that. So haters hate, good games sell copies, life goes on.

I think their games are very well put together. But at the same time I also enjoy other games of the same or similar genre. I still buy and play games like BF3, SOCOM 4 or the upcoming GR:FS. However at the end of the day, I feel that CoD has "set the bar" for these other companies to rise up to. Some have, some have tried and failed.

Keep producing CoD games Treyarch and IW, you still have several million loyal fans.

Looks like COD: Skynet :/

Better off buying Ghost Recon this looks like a bad SyFy movie turned video game.

Il probly "rent" this one online. just like all the other CoD i have ever played. Il probly enjoy the SP for a day.

Treyarch actually tries new things unlike IW.  I think MW2/MW3 were garbage compared to the excellent CoD4. Black Ops was basically a more balanced customizable version of MW2/MW3.  Also Zombies stomps Spec Ops.

I'm excited about this CoD.

It's reassuring for the developers to know that they can tack "Call of Duty" onto any pile of crap and have a hundred million brain-dead monkeys pull out their wallets.

They don't care about the game anymore, kinda sad...

I think some of the haters may have turned....

That or CoD finally became different enough.

the thing I love about the CoD games is that despite the stupid biased comments that 10 year olds post here about how the game s*cks A*s, each new games outsells its predecessors, so actual gamers still know what is good and what is not, soooo briiiiiiiiiiiiing it ooooooon, we are waiting

I love how they tell us stuff like this like it's supposed to be surprising, of course CoD is gonna get more and more sales, I'm not even hating, at all, it's just what most "gamers" this generation do, it's sad but true. Hey,do you like respawning every 10 seconds, aiming for the first head you see, die, and repeat? Fine by me, I won't knock you, but you better believe I wouldn't be playing a game like that. Are the shooters the only genre people this generation recognize?! It's shooters-fu*king everything! Map packs out the azz, people just camp anyways, just so dumb to me, but hey play what you play. And with that, I'll go back to playing my ToGF.

It surprises me that people pay $60 for a game that gets followed up by a sequel every 12 months with DLC spread out over the period. No thanks

Black-Ops is rated at an 18... the majority of players are below that age... conclusion... this world is diseased with bad parenting

funny how people fall for such news , what i think is that this is just another style of marketing ,hyping people up with stupid numbers

The comment boxes are good, apart from the lack of a thumbs down option.

But yeah, I'm going to rent this, like every other CoD I play. The campaign is exactly the same as a Micheal Bay film, especially in the way that once you've experienced it, you don't really feel like doing it again. It's fun while it lasts though.

I wonder when this genre will start to stall. FPS games lost their luster for me years ago (the last CoD game I played was Modern Warfare for instance), I just got so bored with the genre - it gets so repetitive, and I don't find it very fun at all.

XboxGuy1537

Looking forward to it. Most of the people hating on it are probably going to end up buying it anyways.

How is it that so many comments on here say, "I'll never buy another annual CoD release, " and then the sales figures multiply for the next release?

ChaoticLucidity

I read the headline and scanned the article and thought 'wtf are ppl thinking?' Then I watched the video and realized that the cod games actually have a good action packed story... Maybe that is why they do so well, and not cos of the repeated multiplayer.

really? the world is really full of dumb people. after giving a last try at cod with mw3, I don't think I'll try any other cod. black ops itself was a mess, and now this non sense just makes me sick....

I'm trying to wrap my head around how there's so much hate for CoD and yet it sets pre-order/sales records every damn year. I should be surprised, but I'm not.

Hate it all you want, but I think this game will be allot better than MW3 or Black Ops. If they do the branching storyline thing right, it might be awesome. This is the CoD series' chance to gain some respect from the gaming community.

And this is why we'll keep seeing year-by-year releases, it won't surprise me if next year they start releasing a new CoD per semester instead.

@edgewalker16 Are you a hipster by any chance? I bet you liked Call of Duty, back before it was mainstream. Or are you one of those under-underground gamers who prefers the original PC version of Medal of Honor?

 @whichonespink73

You pay 60, then 15 for map pack 1, then maybe a 2, or sometimes, rarely they're 10, so you're atleast spending 80-90 on the game, then a few months after the map pack just came out, a new game is announced, cough up another 64.19 b*tches. I don't think so, not from my wallet.

burgeg

@BelaidKL Hate comments like this. 99% of the people that say this crap played games with high age ratings when they were a kid. My guess is you did too. And even if for some reason you didn't, your parents probably let you watch movies the age rating said you shouldn't have been watching. So don't have the nerve to lecture people about bad parenting.

vToL_DarKZz

@Shawn45 Eh counter strike source is still the best fps ever made because of simple gameplay and mods, maybe cod should learn from that.

 @Shawn45

Maybe you should stop blaming the entire genre and look at each game on its own merits.

I mean, when you say an entire genre lost its luster because of so many CoD games, it just miiiiight appear that you are saying you are saying "Half-Life 3" is not a game worth waiting for, simply because they release CoD yearly.

And your user icon suggests that is not the case.

@ChaoticLucidity The story is the only reason I got MW3, since the multiplayer was horrible. Black Ops 2 mutiplayer sounds like it will be fun though. We'll find out in November.

And not to mention the cost of xbox live and you ISP.  Its absurd.  biggest ripoff even and its not like the game has made an major improvement since 2007

@burgeg Oh I accept my parents were full of bad parenting when I grew up.... I'm not being a hypocrite, I'm talking from experience of both growing up and playing these actual games... I used to watch and play games rated 18 when I was 14 but I'm not saying it's right... my parents were clearly in the wrong so yeah... I can lecture the normality when, as you claim, "99% of people played games of higher ratings as a kid"... as I said before the "majority of players"... my argument stands conclusive... this world is diseased with bad parenting, you're point only supports this theory

Shawn45
Shawn45

@LtReviews Haha, my icon is out of date.

But really, I honestly don't care for FPS games anymore - run, jump, and shoot. There may be variations, like leveling mechanics and such, but beyond that they are all practically the same to me now. Furthermore, when did I say that they lost their luster because of CoD? I was an avid TF2 player, and i played it for YEARS. It really just burnt me out of the entire thing.

Currently I am really into JRPGs, but who knows, maybe in a few years I will be burnt out of that as well.

ace5572
ace5572

@deadmonkey76 No, he's just pointing out that its actually the 10 yr olds who're buying the game.

And why does each new CoD outsell the next? Well...in the great words of Immortal Technique: "Just because you go platinum, its got nothing to do with luck. It just means that a million people are stupid as fu**."
